The Aliens mint started on April 8 at 08:08 PM UTC, but the story is not that short.
The button for mint was returning the contract value in Wei instead of Ether.
Within seconds, before we even realized it, dozens and then hundreds of mints were taking place using the smart-contract directly to get NFTs.
At 00:27 (Appodial's time zone) and with some answers from the developer we decide to communicate about the incident.
We want the sale of 888ALIEN to be as fair and distributed as possible, when we saw more than 40 mints per minute on the reactivation of the contract and even before we announced it on Twitter, we thought it was possible that people were using bots to capture as much of the supply as possible.
We (Appodial & Transmuteur) called each other at 00:42 to discuss the situation, in this call we were talking with the developer and here is the quid pro quo:
After some rectifications from the developer, the mint was working for users using Metamask, however we were using Rainbow Wallet which was not working.
Long story short (by a few minutes):
After using Metamask on mobile and computer the mint finally worked for us, which we tweeted at 01:08
This incident will be in the school books, over $180,000 was raised in a few minutes with users directly using the smart-contract.
The lesson is to always double-check the site!
What's next? The funds are secured and will be transmitted (if not already) to a secure multi-sig by Appodial, Transmuteur and XM92. They will be deposited in a secure way to a yield generating asset to build Alienzone.
The partners of Alienzone and the holders partners of 888ALIEN will be announced.
