We all can.
It is silly to think that we spend our time on anything other than what is benefiting our best selves, which often also what will benefit others too..
While facilitating a session on Nobility, one of the girls in our Uganda opened up about a challenge she is facing. Her parents are not able to afford her education anymore. She shared this with me after I told her that girls in another group are starting a fashion line. She said that she is really good and doormats and wants to make them to pay her way through school. She asked me in this moment sharing if she could learn from the girls in Bangladesh to make clothes and sell like them for her education. I asked her how much her education is and we did the math.. it is about $26 a term. $67 for one year.
This is more than many Americans pay for a dinner out on the weekend. ONE YEAR OF A GIRLS EDUCATION. Not to mention, well.. as she did to me, she is in a special honor program because of her intelligence and drive. This issue has been really affecting her and she is “working,” to find a solution.
Today’s word that we went over was Nobility. I told her, in my opinion, your way of handling this situation is very noble. Life brings us challenges and it is not the challenge but how we deal with it.
My dream is to create an All Star Society in society where everyone shines. Everyone is given the opportunity to build their unique capacities and talents, finding unity in our diversity. And most importantly, equality.
It is great to have business and make a lot of money, I think if we are doing this, we need to give back and even the playing field for all. That is why I have created this “site.” It is a site or place for people to come together with the intention to make the world a brighter place, together.
This young girl in our group is very resourceful, making products that can fund her education. Not everyone would be so solution oriented in such situations and I’m happy to open up this space to share such stories and help such individuals get the resources they need via community support.
I think, however, the fact that there is such inequalities means that we need to find solutions to resolve them. On an eternal level, from a soulful space, one will profit much more by donating to supporting another than spending that money on selfish desires. Nothing is wrong with a nice dinner, I appreciate it.. but how can we balance our finances and desires to bring more justice? How can we bring out the best in others and not be so focused on ourselves?
If you would like to donate, directly to the girls, please email me and it would go through our non profit with a tax receipt at mediaofsociety@gmail.com
