It’s 2022 and I miss libraries.
I loved them for their physical representation of humanity’s desire to persists in time.
I loved walking through the isles wondering what weird tidbits of knowledge each of those innocuous books held.
But most of all, I loved it because I could study.
I would study elsewhere and anywhere of course but nowhere else would I be most in a state of flow. Not coincidentally, libraries are also places where other people study, work and read. Obvious, I know but not to me.
However, I’m not talking about the social contract of being in a shared space of study where you’re expected to be quiet. I’m talking about the moments in between studying where I was chatting with other students about the topics we were going over.
It’s one thing to feel pressure to not watch Netflix in a library and another to have to force yourself to synthesize information for a conversation. Having to transform whatever gibberish I had skimmed through into a concise sentence always made it clear whether I understood the material or not.
Which brings me to this post about learning in public.
I’m realizing that - you know what - despite all the raging YouTube comments, I do like interacting on the web. Not only that, I can unquestionably feel that it is reversing deep rooted rot that has developed in my brain.
So until I’ve weeded out those parasitic patterns, I’m creating. Creating in public.
It’s not a resolution, it’s a paradigm shift. Here’s a list to make it real.
I hate how I’m researching coins at the moment. I want a formalized process/solution and document it to share with others.
Build in public and get feedback.
Interactive multi-media. I want to share moments from mp4, images, articles and analyse them together.
Thanks for reading.
Sincerely, future me.
