PlayStation

PlayStation is Sony's first video game console, and the first of that company to be designed by Ken Kutaragi, and is a 32-bit home video game console released by Sony Computer Entertainment on December 3, 1994 in Japan. The origin of the PlayStation is ironic. Back in the "distant" 90s, Nintendo was looking to take the giant step that would consolidate it as the absolute king of video games. To achieve that goal, he needed to go from cartridge to CD. For the development of this add-on that read CD, Nintendo decided to ally with a Japanese company, Sony, where the first Nintendo PlayStation would be produced. However, through a series of disagreements, Nintendo decided to break deals with Sony and instead allied itself with the Philips company, with which it produced the monumental flop known as the Philips CD-i. For its part, Sony was left with only a prototype of the PlayStation that, before its creation, had no interest in participating in the video console market. But, with this project started, they decided to continue with the development of this console, which was already at a fairly advanced stage. This is how Nintendo indirectly helped the creation of the PlayStation. The creator of PlayStation was Ken Kutaragi, who also did the impossible to launch his project to the market, a fact that officially happened at the end of 1994, obtaining resounding success in global sales, establishing the Sony company and the PlayStation brand as important within of the industry. The keys were the facilities that Sony granted to its developers and the inclusion of the CD format that expanded the possibilities of content. So many would be the facilities that in 1996 Sony would make available a model where it allowed the development of video games by users and independent players. In the middle of the 5th generation of video games, it competed directly with the Nintendo 64 and the SEGA Saturn. For its part, Nintendo was striving to bring out the Nintendo 64, which, although it had memorable games and helped define the video game industry, the impact caused by the PlayStation was great that it could not compete. Sony's console was one of the first in the world to exceed 100 million units sold, and although it did not have an internal memory like the Nintendo 64 cartridges had, it did have a catalog of iconic games, milestones of the industry such as Resident Evil, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 7-8 and 9, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo or Chrono Cross.
