Arbitrum is on the brink of a major shift! A new governance proposal, backed by 83% of ARB holders, is set to pass, paving the way for Orbit chains to expand beyond Ethereum.
This move follows the Arbitrum Foundation's January launch of the Arbitrum Expansion Program, which lets developers fork and tweak Arbitrum's code for other Ethereum-secure chains. Now, there’s strong interest in bringing Orbit to networks like Bitcoin, BNB Chain, and Cosmos.
Expanding Orbit could boost revenue for Arbitrum, with new chains sharing 10% of their profits—8% for ArbitrumDAO and 2% for the Developer Guild. Voting wraps up on July 31.
Orbit chains, which allow for highly customizable Layer 2 and Layer 3 solutions, have seen impressive growth. Xai, a Layer 3 network by OffChain Labs, leads in activity, while Reya Network dominates Orbit DeFi with a TVL of $142.3 million and significant trading volume.
ARB token price has dipped 3.3% in the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.
