“The human layer isn’t code. It’s not something you deploy or ship. It’s the connection you feel when builders come together to solve real human problems.” — Eric Annan
That statement didn’t just hang on a wall this year; it quietly shaped everything we did.
For a long time, we were building in many directions at once. We had hubs, programs, communities, and experiments running full speed. They were all important, and all necessary.
But beneath the noise of shipping products, a bigger question kept returning to us: What actually makes an ecosystem work?
The answer didn't come from a line of code. It came from a stage at Devcon SEA7 2024. When our founder spoke about the Human Layer, the pieces finally clicked.
We realized that infrastructure alone doesn't build the future. Technology alone doesn't solve problems.
2025 gave us the answer. It was the conversations before the code. The trust before the partnership. The shared belief before the product.
This year, we stopped looking at just the systems, and started looking at the souls behind them.
We didn’t just launch programs; we activated people.
We didn’t just build networks; we sparked movements.
From every prototype tested in Accra, Kilifi, to every late-night hackathon, residency, and roundtable you proved one thing: Progress starts with people.
It starts with your curiosity. Your courage. Your shared learning.
So, this Wrapped isn’t a standard "highlight reel" of vanity metrics. It’s a walkthrough of how the Human Layer came alive. It is the story of how African builders turned moments into momentum.
Welcome to AyaHQ Wrapped 2025. Let’s walk through the year builders made the impossible possible.
If you only have 30 seconds, here is how we redefined the Human Layer this year:
Expanded the Map: Launched the AyaHQ x Lisk Hub in Kilifi, Kenya—connecting West and East African builders.
The Roadshows: Met 700+ builders across Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
ZuAfrique 1.0: Hosted a "pop-up city" experiment with 110+ events and builders from over 20+ countries.
AyaLabs V2: Moved from "sandbox" to "action"—launching onchain transactions and awarding $17k in prizes.
Incubation Impact: $312k in grants deployed to 20 graduating teams across 3 cohorts.
Building for Good: Secured land for the
If 2024 was about laying roots in Ghana, 2025 was about building bridges.
For the Human Layer to thrive, it needed more than one home. It needed connection across regions. Through our partnership with Lisk, we launched the AyaHQ x Lisk Builders Hub in Kilifi, Kenya.
This wasn’t about opening another hub. It was about creating a shared ground between West and East African builders. Away from capital-city noise, Kilifi became a place to slow down, collaborate deeply, and focus on building that matters.
With this launch, one thing became clear: AyaHQ isn’t a location. It’s a network.

Taking the Human Layer on the road
Builders doesn’t only exist in hubs. Sometimes it lives in university halls, small coworking spaces, or tight-knit local communities.
So we went to them.
Across 4 countries, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, we hosted 5 roadshows, meeting over 700 builders where they already were.
We saw the grit in Kampala, the creativity in Kigali, the determination in Kumasi. The Human Layer looked different in every city, but the hunger was the same.
We didn’t just show up. We listened. We learned. And we connected people who might never have met otherwise.

ZuAfrique wasn’t meant to be just another pop-up city.
It was an experiment. A question in real time: what does the Human Layer actually look like when people live it?
For a brief moment, ZuAfrique became a city built on shared presence. A place where people could show up fully human, connect deeply, and create without pressure.
70+ participants didn’t just attend, they coexisted
110+ curated events: workshops, panels, open spaces, late-night conversations under the stars
290+ posts generating 60,000+ impressions
But the real signal wasn’t digital. The pull stretched from Nairobi, Ghana, Nigeria to Lebanon, US, Denver, India. Different cultures, same resonance.
ZuAfrique proved something simple and powerful:
When you design around shared values, people show up and they stay.

Accra & Kilifi — Where the ecosystem breathes
With two active hubs, the ecosystem finally found its rhythm. These spaces became the "living rooms" of African innovation.
1,305+ unique visitors from 32+ countries
240+ residents using the hubs daily
10+ real-world products born from conversations over coffee
30+ major community events, including Ethereum @10
One moment stood out: a Public–Private Roundtable in Accra, where founders, regulators, and government officials sat at the same table. No posturing. Just dialogue.
That’s the Human Layer at work.

From vision to ground
Pop-up cities and hubs matter but permanence matters too.
In 2025, we took a major step toward our long-term vision by securing land in Accra for the Innovation Economic Zone.
This isn’t just a building. It’s the idea of a physical space governed by the needs of builders. A place where innovation isn’t an afterthought, but the foundation.
This year, the vision moved from conversation to planning.

Cohorts 1, 2 & 3 — Doing the hard part
Building is hard. Supporting builders is harder.
Through our Incubation Program, we leaned into that responsibility.
630+ applications from 20+ African countries
74 projects selected after deep review
$312,000 in grants awarded to 20 graduating teams
An additional $50,000 raised independently by founders
2,000+ people tuned in for Demo Day
We hosted two Founder Summits in Accra and Kilifi spaces for honest conversations, not just pitch decks.
And the work continues. Cohort 3 is live, with 18 new projects just beginning their journey.
Partner with us: Due to the success of our framework, AyaHQ Incubation-as-a-Service is now open to new enterprises and governments across the continent and beyond.

This year, AyaLabs evolved from a sandbox into an active coordination layer. We launched Transactions feature on AyaLabs, closing the loop: Collaboration → Contribution → Compensation.
9 Hackathons powered by 19 global organizations.
900+ Participants shipping 68 new projects.
$17,000 in Prizes moved directly to builders.
It’s no longer just a place to learn; it’s where participation turns into ownership. No matter your background, AyaLabs is where you plug into the ecosystem and get rewarded for your grit.

This year wasn't just about shipping; it was about legacy. We celebrated half a decade of AyaHQ, moving from a single idea to a pan-African movement.
5 Years of betting on African builders when the world said “wait.”
5 Years of evolving from local hackathons to a global coordination layer.
The Milestone: This year proved that Africa isn’t catching up, Africa is leading.
To every builder who has been with us since Day 1 (or Day 1,000): This 5-year milestone is yours.

Every conversation in Accra.
Every prototype tested in Kilifi.
Every shared meal at ZuAfrique.
Every late-night debugging session.
All of it reinforced one truth:
Progress doesn’t start with tools. It starts with people.
To our partners and sponsors thank you for trusting the vision.
To everyone who showed up curious, hopeful, or unsure thank you for leaning in.
