How to apply compliance to a DAO?

When applying compliance to a traditional company, this process is typically driven top-down. The executive board is aware of the consequences if the company is incompliant. The company faces fines and the executives risk their job if the job is not done right.

In DAOs it's a bit different, as I see it. The very flat organizational structure and the low level of hierarchy make every contributor responsible for him/herself. Without the knowledge of the potential consequences of lacking compliance, every contributor risks liability. It does not make the problem less complicated that products and services see rapid development and are provided worldwide.

At the same time, it also does not make the case easier, that the word compliance to some contributors rhymes with submission KYC, which in many cases is not even the case.

I am thinking a lot about how compliance can be applied to a DAO. Any good ideas, please reach out! Discord: Balloonist#6963

Update 12 July 2022

It has to be easy for the contributors to figure out what rules apply to them.

I plan on making a Venn diagram - the contributors lists activities conducted and jurisdictions the services are made available, and the relevant products/solutions will be listed.
