Uniswap v4 is set to launch in the third quarter of the year, after the upcoming Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum network, as announced by the Uniswap Foundation. The foundation, which supports the decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, shared a tentative date for the deployment of v4 in a recent post on X.
They also provided a roadmap outlining their plans for the rollout, with the current focus being on completing core code, testing, optimizing gas usage, enhancing security, and finalizing peripheral details. Once this phase is complete, the Uniswap Foundation team will turn to audit firms and a community audit contest to ensure the integrity of v4's code, which they believe will be the most thoroughly audited code ever deployed on Ethereum. At the same time, v4 will be deployed to the testnet while the team makes final adjustments.
According to the foundation, the third and final phase of the rollout is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024, but this date is subject to change depending on the status of the Dencun upgrade. As reported earlier by Cointelegraph, the Dencun upgrade was activated on the Goerli testnet on January 17 and introduced several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), including EIP-4844 which enables proto-danksharding to reduce layer2 transaction fees.
The deployment on the Goerli testnet experienced a four-hour delay, but the deployment on the Sepolia testnet, the second of three Ethereum testnets, was completed smoothly on January 31. The third and final testnet for the Dencun upgrade, the Holesky testnet, was deployed on February 7, and on February 8, Ethereum developer Tim Beiko announced that the upgrade is set to go live on the mainnet at "slot 8626176". According to blockchain research firm Nethermind, this will be on March 13, 2024, at 1:55:35 pm UTC, as decided by Ethereum developers during a call on February 8, following the successful deployment on the Holesky testnet.
