Beachcrimes: Finding Ourselves in Web3

Who Are We?

Hi, we’re Ryan and Tia, a duo from LA. We spent the last year making songs in hotel rooms around the world. Beachcrimes is our soundtrack to that adventure.

We made a lot of songs, and we can’t wait to share them. All of them! This year we’re releasing 24 songs in 48 weeks and we’re so excited about the freedom that Web3 has given us.

Yeah But Who Are We Really?

We’ve been full time songwriter-producers for hire for the past 8 years. Ryan has written songs for Halsey, Chainsmokers, Bebe Rexha, and “Shut Up & Dance” for Walk The Moon.

Tia has written songs for Justin Bieber, Ava Max, John Legend, and Saweetie, among others. Ryan has also been DJing for 10 years and was signed to Epic Records with his DJ trio Captain Cuts.

We love working with other artists but we always had this itch to make our own music.

For the past year, we travelled the world making dance songs in hotel rooms. And in the past, we would then pitch these songs to other DJs. Can we get Chainsmokers to do it? Get Zedd to do it. Get Marshmello to do it. Sometimes they’d even say yes. But as is often the case with these things, we’d find our song sitting on a shelf in purgatory for 12-18 months without any control over the path it would take into the world or if it would ever see the light of day at all. That was the case for a few of these Beachcrimes records we’re releasing this year, before we decided to claim them for ourselves and take back control of their narrative.

Because for every song on this project, we just felt something in our DNA that these were ours. They were just really uniquely only us. And so Beachcrimes was born.

Why Web3?

We’ve been into the NFT world as collectors for a while but we’re new to being artists in Web3. And we wanted to show our appreciation for the artists who came before us and built this world.

Our first step into Web3 was a mixtape featuring 14 of our favorite artists.

Shout out to Mija, Bloody White, Camoufly, Green Ring, Daniel Allan, Kevin George, DLG, Dot, RAC, Astro, San Holo, Reo Cragun, Dav and Kids of the Apocalypse.

We want to make this a regular thing so we’ll reach out to you guys for some help.

One thing that inspired us was seeing these artists release music on their own terms. That’s huge for us.

We write hundreds of songs every year for other artists but only a handful of them ever find a home, and even less of those ever see an actual release. We touched on this in the introduction, but ask any professional songwriter about their horror stories of having one of their favorite songs they’ve ever written sit on hold with a major artist only to collect dust for months (if not years!) and never actually see the light of day. And in the event they do actually see release, writers rarely have any say whatsoever in the campaigns.

What if we wanted to release 24 songs in a year?

What if we wrote a song this week and wanted to share it with you guys straight away?

Web3 allows us to do that.

That’s an amazing shift. This space eliminates the need for (and interference from) the traditional music industry gatekeepers and intermediaries standing between artists, their art and their fans. Artists are the last major brands to go direct-to-consumer, because it worked in favor of the corporations that control the majority of the music industry. Web3 brings D2C to artists 20+ years after it revolutionized every other traditional industry, and takes it one step further – we like to reimagine D2C in this context as Direct To Community, and that’s how we plan to bring this project to life with you all.

We Put Our Debut Single On-Chain

Yes, this year we’re releasing 24 songs in 48 weeks. If we’re being real, it’s actually two albums – there’s AM and there’s PM. AM is the lite stuff, PM is the nite stuff. Think of it like the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics, but for dance music.

We wanted this project to live in Web3 from day one so we put our debut single on-chain. “Let’s Play House” is our genesis track and it hit Sound.xyz before anywhere else. Debuted permanently on the blockchain.

The first two tracks are now already sold out on Sound.xyz (here and here). So far the response in the web3 community has been super positive and we’re so blessed to have so many supporters already. We’ve got a Telegram group with all our holders and we love to check in with them. We give them some exclusive first listens and some mashups and edits that we make. But this is just the beginning! We have very big plans for the space.

"One Step" is the 3rd of these 24 singles. This is the most PM song we have. Built around a single vocal loop we wrote and recorded in Florence, this song proudly flies the flag of tech house - a genre that we respect and love. If you close your eyes, we hope you can feel the electricity of a 4am Italian club. Cuz we sure can.

Next single will be out 2 weeks from today, and the following single 2 weeks after that.

Investing In Ourselves

We’re also posting content on all social platforms every single day. That Web2 baloney like Tik Tok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc. We filmed all of our travels last year so we have tons of footage of us making and singing the songs in all the cities where we made them.

We only debuted this project 3 weeks ago but we are betting the house on it. We want this to be the biggest DJ project of the year and we know it will be. We spent the past 8 years writing and producing global hit records for tons of artists so we know when we have hits. And trust us - all of these songs are hits. You can quote us on that ;)

Come With Us

We have so much planned for this year and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to! We want to bring our collectors behind the scenes, so if you hold one of our NFTs, let us know and we’ll add you to the exclusive Telegram group. We want to be sharing new heat with you all before anyone else. We’re just really excited to cultivate a community in this space to bring into the creative process. We feel like it could be the start of something special, a grand experiment we can’t wait to bring into the world, and we’d love for you to jump in and build with us 🏖️🚨
