Learn about the brains behind the SNS
Greetings Suildiers,
My name is Anthony and I’m the founder of the Sui Name Service (SNS).
At the SNS, we pride ourselves as being transparent.
You should know who you’re dealing with.
So, this is part of our new series where I’ll be introducing the people who make the Sui Name Service possible. In total, there’s 7 of us right now so get ready for the content. Anyway, let’s get into it.
My Background
I‘m from Edgewater, NJ, United States. I grew up there and I LOVED video games. I used to spend hours every day grinding competitive Minecraft PVP. And that’s what got me into programming originally.
At 11 years old, I taught myself how to program in Java and I started selling Minecraft Server plugins online. Originally, it was a hobby, but that hobby would foreshadow the next decade of my life.
Ad-man Anthony
In high school, I started working on eCommerce, mostly drop-shipping stores on Shopify. I made and lost a lot of money before I got the hang of it, but I got really really good at advertising. But at the same time, I never left CS and I would study it at Georgetown University in DC.
Soon enough, I realized I liked making software products better than selling golden roses or flower bears (if you ever did drop-shipping you know), so I founded two SAAS-based products on the Shopify platform. And since, then I’ve been mainly working on that.. until I discovered crypto last year.
My Crypto Journey
In 2021, I found out about Solana and I thought it was incredible. High TPS, low transaction costs, the future looked so bright. But, programming on Rust is not an easy feat and I did not like the core infrastructure on the blockchain.
I thought the Solana technology itself was really innovative, but the core projects weren’t, especially the Solana Name Service. It appeared to me simply to be an $ENS-copy rather than building something truly special. And since then, I’ve seen the same phenomena happen over and over again.
“Blockchain technology gets better, but the projects stay the same.”
Unless, you get in right at the start… And then, I discovered Sui.
I LOVE Sui.
Sui, based on the Move programming language has been the most enjoyable development experience of my life, and it is just getting started. This means that the projects now can shape the direction the eco-system takes for the future. I do sincerely believe a chain is only as strong as its core products.
Now, I’m actively living in Washington, DC and I am EXTREMELY pro-Sui.
I am so pro-Sui, I started the SNS and I intend to do my part to build the Sui community from the ground up — the right way.
Sui is the first blockchain in history that I believe can bring gaming to crypto. However, the chain itself does not bring adoption. It is the projects on the chain that bring adoption.
For that reason, I am making everything related to the Sui Name Service — gaming related. Everything from our NFTs to our branded posts has a game-related theme associated with this. This not only creates hype, but it also creates a huge real demand for games that we can show to game developers later on. Without demand, game developers will never come.
“We don’t only sell domains as payment identifiers, we sell identity on the next big game platform — Sui.”
Solana can be the faster Ethereum.
Aptos can be the Defi chain.
But, we will make Sui the Gaming Blockchain.
And with it, we will bring ownership back to the people.
A new type of Company.
Recently in Crypto there has been so much excess and greed. So many projects and platforms have been built and taken advantage of the people that have supported them.
The most notable example of this is the FTX collapse… not to mention the thousands of cases of fraud related to NFT projects.
I don’t want that for Sui. And I don’t want that for Crypto either.
That is not web3 to me.
Starting with the SNS, I intend to build new kinds of Crypto Companies on Sui that are based around two distinct principles:
Building great software products with good UI/UX.
Helping as many people as possible.
What does this mean?
My goal is to build projects directly along side the community and return 25%+ ownership of the protocols back to the people who helped support, build or use these protocols.
The SNS is our first Grand Experiment.
My development company will still be able to generate revenue regardless of market conditions or direct ownership. But, I do believe this model is the future of Web3 Companies.
“My fundamental belief is the people that build and use the protocol should own the protocol”
I truly believe we can change the world together through Sui and the SNS. An identity protocol especially should be owned be by the people, for the people.
We are here to stay.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post! I’ll be releasing more blog content bi-weekly on the blog. As for updates, our hard target for our Devnet release is 01/01/23. But, we very much so intend to have it released before then.
Up until then, we’ll be releasing more NFT content and partnerships.
