Why is this a Big Deal ?
As DEFI, crypto and gaming industry and projects has already pushed to concept of metamask in the mainstream, facebook rebranding itself as a Metaverse first company(before it was facebook first company) is a huge bet in the future of metamask.
They will create education material to train new Artists, programmer and gamers to monetize it in the space. I will not be surprised if they use one of the EVM compatible L1/L2 solutions in the future to power their economy inside the metaverse.

Potential partners for facebook to power could be Immutable.com which offers 0 gas fees. #polygon, and #celoOrg are also my guess for the partnership. Coinbase and A16z are two companies who have invested in Celo, so i am really bullish that some day, some big partnership will be announced with big companies as coinbase is already healping and powering facebook NOVI app.
Arbitrum, Optimism, gas fees are not affordable for the people to do this in scale as facebook wants to reach 1 billion users and more in 5 to 10 years.
Silicon Valley is a small circle of people, so we will see so much happing between the companies in the future.
