inBetweeners is a global crowdsourced community focused on spreading love and positivity across the metaverse. Access to the community is limited to 10,777 bear holders, each special in its own way.  The inBetweener’s art is hand drawn by Gianpiero, a world-renowned artist whose work has been sought after by Snoop Dog, Netflix, Levis, Bel Aire Rose, and more.

For inBetweeners, Gianpiero has joined up with Justin Bieber to bring the NFTs to the world stage. Behind them, is a team of start-up operators, celebrities, and growth marketers to ensure the longevity of the community.

At Europa Labs, we built and are launching a dedicated web3 application flow for the InBetweeners team to power their tokenized Famiglia Designer Hoodie (token redeemable).

Tokenized redeemables are NFTs that are backed by a claim on a physical item, rather than a simple jpeg. Tokenized Redeemables enable luxury good enthusiasts to acquire, hold, and trade claims around scarce collections, without having to deal with custody and shipping during each purchase.

Redeeming is easy – simply trigger the contract redemption function, which can be done via application interface at redeem.inbetweeners.io, and the Designer Hoodie will show up on your front doorstep.

At Europa Labs, we built a dedicated web3 application flow for the inBetweeners team to power their tokenized Famiglia Hoodie token redeemable.

Tokenized redeemables are a type of non-fungible token (NFT) that represent ownership of a physical item, rather than just a digital image. This allows luxury goods enthusiasts to easily acquire, hold, and trade claims on scarce collections (in this case the inBetweeners’ Mystery Box) without the hassle of handling custody and shipping with each trade.

In the traditional web2 ecommerce model, a luxury item must be shipped to the buyer before it can be resold.  However, with the web3 model and tokenized redeemables, users can buy and trade claims on these items multiple times before they are actually "shipped" to the final buyer who wants to use the mint-edition item. This streamlines the trading process, reduces shipping costs, simplifies custody, and offers other benefits.

To redeem the Famiglia Hoodie, users will need to provide their physical address and shipping information through the dedicated web app.  Users simply enter their shipping information, desired size, and other information – and then initiate a “burn transaction” of their mystery box to finalize their purchase order.  The redemption process is limited to one box per bear.

This information is then exported to a third-party shipping and fulfillment company for processing. During the redemption process, users can also choose attributes such as size, which will be reflected upon fulfillment. Once the NFT has been redeemed, users will receive a confirmation email at the address specified in the web app.

When an NFT is redeemed, the overall supply of the "mint condition" item it represents decreases by one unit, making the item itself more scarce and valuable. This presents an opportunity for the client to create a social marketing campaign as the hoodies are redeemed and the available supply decreases over time.

Critical to the mission of enabling a web3 future, the application build utilizes a number of native-web3 services to ensure a robust, decentralized, and performant backend for users.

The website assets are stored on a decentralized cloud platform called Storj DCS (decentralized cloud storage) – which splits all of the static object content in to small pieces, streaming them in parallel from over 17,000 endpoints across the globe – thus enabling quick load times across the world without the need for data replication or a CDN.

For the dedicated Famiglia redemption App, Europa has built its own metadata rendering service instead of using a third-party data service (such as OpenSea API) to retrieve NFT metadata. This service natively indexes key collection content and events using a dedicated subgraph with The Graph.

RPC routing for the application is accomplished using the Pocket Network, instead of a centralized provider – this enabling a more secure, decentralized, and resilient backend for the interface between the ethereum network and the application.

The redemption functionality for inbetweeners is simply the start of the relationship between Europa Labs’ development team and the inbetweeners.
