Hello all,
My name is Black Rose and I am excited to be a part of the Mirror community. While I am not new to the Web3 sphere, I am new to the platform and have found the conversations and art in this space to be very riveting. In my personal life, I spend time researching Black digital communication and how our language, experiences, and traditions emerge within the media. I've been eager to discover a community where I can freely express my thoughts and ideas regarding the Black experience in the Web 3 space. I've found virtual reality platforms such as Altspace, Horizon Worlds, and Spatial to be places that foster Black creativity and enable me to connect with new communities.
Since 2021, I have collected over 150 Funko pops. If you don’t know what a Funko pop is, it is a vinyl figure renown for their exaggerated features such as oversized eyes and giant bobbleheads that resemble characters that are beloved around the world. My Funko pops have one thing in common: they are all Black women. The Black Woman Funko Collection (BWFC) is an ongoing repository that consist of figures from movies, tv shows, comic books, video games, card games, artists, and other influential sources featuring characters who identify as Black women.

As a Black woman, I find the pursuit of discovering Funkos for BWFC to be a liberating experience, enabling me to explore diverse representations that creatively reflect aspects of Black womanhood across various realms. By bringing BWFC to the Mirror community, I seek to share an array of personalities depicted through the distinct styles, poses, and outfits embodied by each Funko. In these posts, I'll delve into the characters they represent, the vinyl quality, and provide evaluations using a "black rose" rating scale.
Please note that these evaluations are based on my opinion as a collector and although I love each Funko, there are some that have cultural implications that reinforce prevailing stereotypes of Black womanhood. I want to use this space to showcase the astounding level of versatility displayed by Black women, showcasing our ability to embody diverse roles, whether it be for fictional entertainment or through our cultural contribution that empowers Black communities.
In contributing to the Mirror community, my aim is to offer a voice that resonates with creators and collectors, allowing for engagement and discussion about Black creativity, ideas and experiences.
Thanks for reading.
