Today, we will show you how to kickstart your journey in the Web 3.0 world by creating a crypto wallet!
A crypto wallet provides a user-friendly method to interact with the blockchain and decentralized apps (dApps).
You can use it to buy, send, and receive cryptocurrency or NFT. In short, conveniently manage your crypto assets.
We will use Metamask as an example.
Metamask is one of the leading crypto wallets in the market.
It allows you to manage crypto assets like Ether (ETH) and other Ethereum-based tokens.
You can also use it to interact with dApps that support Ethereum.
You can install Metamask as a browser extension or mobile app.
Our example will feature Metamask as a browser extension.
Follow these easy steps, and you are ready to go ;)
1/ Go to https://metamask.io/
2/ Press that big blue download button with your browser icon. In our case, it is Google Chrome. [See the green arrow in the picture below]
3/ After landing on the download page, click "Add to Chrome."
4/ Once installed, you will see a pop-up as below. Click the "Get Started" button to begin creating your wallet.
5/ After that, click "Create a Wallet."
6/ You will be asked if you want to help improve MetaMask, but you can skip that offer by clicking "No Thanks." ;)
If you are a kind soul that wants to contribute, go ahead and press "I agree." ;p
7/ Now! Creative part ;) Time to pick your password. Here are some pro tips before you let your imagination run wild >:D
!!DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD!! Think of a new one! (pretty, please)
Min length eight characters with a mixture of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Don't let those hackers have the upper hand! ;D
8/ Once you've typed in your ultimate password, agree to the Terms of Use by clicking the checkbox and pressing "Create."
9/ Finally, we go to the most critical part: The secret recovery phrase.
Metamask will show you a video, you can watch the video tutorial about it and then click "Next."
10/ MetaMask will show you a 12-word secret recovery phrase, once you click to reveal it, as shown in the image below.
!!There are three crucial things you should keep in mind!!
A. Write this phrase down, with the words recorded in the same order. B. Keep it somewhere safe and private. No one will be able to recover your secret phrase for you. C. Anybody who has access to your secret recovery phrase will have access to your MetaMask wallet.
Once you have saved the phrase, click “Next”.
11/ Metamask will test your memory by asking you to select your secret recovery phrase in the original order. Once you put all the words correctly, click 'Confirm.' By the way, this is not the actual secret recovery phrase! So don't get your hopes up :P
12/ TA-DA! Congrats!
You have successfully created the wallet! Click on "All Done," and you will see the home page of Metamask wallet, showing your ETH assets.
