Chones Season 0 Ecosystem Impact
A year ago, at around 11:00 pm, Addie opened the Airbnb door to the house we would share with more friends for a week. We had sorta hung out on Telegram, but this was our first IRL. Sometimes, while chatting in the kitchen, Addie just relaxed in tree pose, standing like a flamingo. Maybe that helps with all the ideas and insights we were jamming on together. I made poached eggs. Last summer, I took a series of buses out to the desert to meet up with my cousins. One of the transfers was in San Bernardino.
While I stood in the shade, a man walked towards the bus stop and sat in the shade near me. He looked like he didn’t have access to regular health things, like nutrition and hygiene.
He nodded towards my feet and said “gang bangers stand like that.”
I quickly readjusted my feet and told him thank you for letting me know. He replied that he stands like that too. Thankfully, the bus arrived shortly after this conversation.
If you’re wondering how to stand like a gang banger, I was standing like a dancer, slouching in one hip with the other foot propped outwards. My teens were full of pointe shoes and ballet rehearsals, and my hips and feet are still a little unusual.
