I’m trying to make sense of web3.
On one hand I see and hear incredibly smart people – with what seems to be an egoless desire to create positive change – describe this as a pivotal moment for technology and humanity. I’ve even heard some describe this as the beginning of a new collective consciousness. I talk to people who genuinely believe web3 technology and the supporting mindsets hold the keys for combatting climate change. That they have the potential to support entirely new systems that will allow humans to flourish in balance with all living organisms.
On the other hand I am constantly bamboozled and flummoxed by new terminology, technology and insider discourse that feels exclusive, almost intentionally so. I’ve been described as a muggle. And although I’ve tried to approach this space with an open, beginners mind and resist judgement, it can still feel disorientating, even threatening. A little bit like a new class system is forming.
And then there’s the other perspective, which is more rooted in the reaction against some of the very blatant profit motives , vanity signalling and personal brand building. Worse still the crypto speculators that have an air bad ethics. Like Gotham’s criminal underclass .
Navigating this space is tricky but right now, being around some very smart, well-intentioned folks is creating a strong gravitational force. It’s a force which keeps me interested and eager to learn.
