The BraidScienceDAO is a small group of blockchain/Web3 acolytes and science enthusiasts (with backgrounds in computer science, biophysics, economics, finance, and business) fired up about how we can build better systems for science.

It is well known that there are big problems to solve in how scientific research is funded, executed, QC'd, and communicated. And there are, of course, many groups of smart people working on innovative solutions. At Braid, we're in the ideation stage. We're thinking about which piece of the problem we want to build a product to solve, using the tools and/or principles of Web3 and decentralized science ("DeSci"). The two main concepts we're thinking through right now:

Peer Review/Evaluation for Research at Any Stage: As pre-prints become a bigger and bigger part of science, it's important to maintain our standards for quality and ensure there are feedback mechanisms for scientific research. Pre-prints do not go through the peer review process required at many journals prior to publication. We think pre-prints are great and accelerating the pace of scientific progress. We also think it's important for researchers to have feedback mechanisms to improve research and are looking into how we can create something to fill this need. We think there could be a better system to get feedback on research at any stage: particularly ideas, partial results/data, and pre-prints.
Validation of Peer Review Activity: The peer review process at many journals is opaque and hidden from readers. We are exploring how we can validate that this peer review happens without requiring the journals to release it using advanced cryptographic techniques like Zero Knowledge Proofs. We hope this will allow journals and reviewers to prove and show off that they’re doing peer reviews. We hope this could lead to greater trust in the scientific process.

Once we clarify the vision and put together a laser-focused plan, we intend to operate as a true DAO to execute against that plan -- leveraging the part-time participation of an energetic community of distributed, global contributors to get things done.
