Hey crypto fam! It’s JC and I’ve been meaning to share how I got hooked on this wild world way back when it felt like a crazy dream and what’s kept me around all these years. Plus, I’ll toss in a few pointers for anyone interested in getting started. It’s simpler than you think, and trust me, I was clueless once too. Let’s rewind and chat about it!
Picture this: it’s 2017, maybe 2018, and I’m scrolling Twitter (back when it was still called that) minding my own business. Suddenly, some random dude who's name I don't remember was raving about Bitcoin being the “future of finance.” My first thought? “Oh great, another person ranting on the internet.” But something stuck. Why’s this guy so fired up? Could there really be a new way to handle money peer-to-peer, all digital, no banks? Sounds crazy right? but I was curious. So, I started poking around, reading up on Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and stablecoins like Tether.
Back then, I was an electrical apprentice wiring buildings, fitting off lights, switchboards, the whole gig. Money was tight, but I thought, “Why not toss a few bucks in?” I took a punt, bought a bit of crypto, and crossed my fingers. What kept me around wasn’t just the thrill of the ups and downs, it was watching this space grow. New projects, wild ideas, and real uses started popping up. I was hooked, plain and simple.
Fast forward a bit, and things got wild around 2020-2021 with NFTs. Those digital collectibles, goofy apes, blew my mind with the traction it was getting. I jumped in, started buying a few, flipped some of them, and made enough to buy my first house. Yeah, you heard that right, NFTs paid for my roof! It wasn’t just luck, it showed me crypto’s real power. Around then, I also got hooked on projects like Solana, a new chain promising faster transactions and shiny new tech. I dug into it with what I knew back then and threw some bigger cash at it when it was around $18 a coin which I still hold a chunky stack today! Solana had a rough start, outages left and right, but I stuck with it. I trusted the team to pull through, and they’ve been doing great things for the market ever since. From there, I couldn’t look away. Now, in 2025, I’m deeper than ever, cheering on teams like Base and Sonic, watching dApps sprout up on their networks. It’s not just coins anymore for me, it’s about building stuff that works in the real world. That’s what keeps me invested in this industry.
I won’t lie, those first years were messy. I’d check my wallet ten times a day, sweating every dip, thinking am I just burning my hard earned money? But the more I learned, the more I saw the big picture. Crypto wasn’t just a quick buck, it was a shift. Projects started solving real problems, like speeding up payments or cutting out middlemen. I’d chat with mates about it over beers, some still think i'm crazy to this day but it stuck with a few of them. It’s been a ride, but seeing it grow from a Twitter rant to something legit? That’s why I’m still here.
Alright, wanna dip your toes in? It’s not rocket science I promise. Start with curiosity. Ask yourself, what’s crypto doing out there? Poke around online, read about what’s hot in 2025. You’ll spot it everywhere with sports teams signing crypto deals, payment apps adopting crypto as payments, businesses big and small teaming up with blockchain crews. It’s not hidden anymore, it’s shifting right in front of us.
Grab a coffee, open your laptop, and dig in. Look at what people are using crypto for, maybe it’s buying tickets, sending cash fast, or supporting cool projects. Start small, maybe snag a bit on an exchange like Coinbase, play with it, see how it feels. That’s how I kicked off, and look where it’s taken me! No pressure, just explore, it’s the best way in.
Maybe my crypto story will help you get started and bring you on chain . What’s got you curious about crypto, or are you already in and loving it? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
