Democratized Giving with DAOs

Change is pleased to launch Charity for DAOs. Starting today, any DAO using Realms will have the option to propose and vote on a gift to charity. This feature is also available to DAOs that have forked Solana labs’ powerful governance-ui.

DAOs have become an increasingly popular tool for crowdfunding donations. Notably, Ukraine DAO has raised over 8 million USD in support of Ukraine. At Change, we want to make it easy for any DAO to get involved and give back. Further, thanks to Change’s large base of 200k charities, crypto can be donated to more charities than ever.

Let’s take a look at how DAOs can start using this powerful new tool.

In a typical DAO, members with enough governance power have the ability to create a proposal. Anything can be proposed, from transferring money to minting an NFT.

Change has added a new proposal option: Donate to Charity. After selecting, the proposer is prompted to search for a charity. There are over 200k charities available to choose from, provided by Change.

Once a selection has been made, a concise proposal description is suggested to aid other DAO members in understanding the mission of the charity. A link to the charity’s profile on getchange.io is also provided for those who want to find out more.

It’s ready to propose! In typical DAO fashion, the other members will now have the opportunity to vote yea or nay on the donation.

Members can vote yea or nay on the donation.

If the proposal succeeds, the donation will automatically execute. The specified amount will be transferred from the DAO’s treasury to the charity’s wallet. From there, Change automatically handles disbursement of the funds to the charity. Tax receipts can be requested from Change at any time.

This donation proposal type is available right now on Realms, so you can give it a try today! Any DAO forked from Solana labs’ governance repo, like GRAPE and Nation, can also start using this feature by updating their repos with the latest changes from governance-ui.
