EigenLayer is a protocol built on Ethereum that introduces restaking, a new primitive in cryptoeconomic security. EigenLayer allows users to “restake” tokens that are locked up to validate Ethereum so those tokens can be reused to help secure other protocols. EigenLabs was founded in 2021 by Sreeram Kannan, an assistant professor at the University of Washington, Seattle. He believes his company’s flagship product, EigenLayer, is a potential solution to blockchain’s infrastructure crisis, joining a flood of other infrastructure-focused startups that have secured hoards of cash during the most recent crypto bear market.

EigenLabs has raised $50 million in a Series A round led by Blockchain Capital. Other backers in the round included Electric Capital, Polychain Capital, Hack VC, Finality Capital Partners, and Coinbase Ventures, among others.

As of now, there is no plan of launching a token and airdrop. But In the recent interview with Eigenlayer’s CEO on a bankless podcast, Sreeram Kannan talked about how Eigen runs on internal governance devnet and the onboarding of first protocols. So there is very likely that this project might have its token, eventually.

Today (7th April 2023) EigenLayer announced the release of the testnet for the first stage of the EigenLayer protocol.

The launch of EigenLayer will be phased in three stages: Stage 1: Stakers - where stakers will be onboarded into restaking on EigenLayer Stage 2: Operators - where node operators will be onboarded and can receive delegation from restakers Stage 3: Services - where the first actively validated services on EigenLayer will be onboarded

The current launch of the Stage 1 testnet is built on the Ethereum Goerli network.

So here is how can test EigenLayer on it's Stage 1 testnet:

• Select and get ETH faucet on Ethereum Goerli

• Convert Goerli ETH to rETH and stETH

• Restake on EigenLayer

• Select Goerli chain on your EVM wallet

• Get ETH faucet: Alchemy | Mine Skip if you already have.

To convert Goerli ETH to rETH:

• Go to: https://testnet.rocketpool.net

• And stake ETH to get rETH

To convert Goerli ETH to stETH: Send any amount of your Goerli ETH to the stETH token contract address. Eg. send 0.01 Goerli ETH to get 0.01 stETH.

• Open your Wallet

• Click SEND

• Paste: 0x1643E812aE58766192Cf7D2Cf9567dF2C37e9B7F

• On Metamask click "I Understand"

• Enter the amount you want to send & confirm the transaction

Once the transaction is successful, you will get stETH in your wallet instantly.

• Go to: https://goerli.eigenlayer.xyz

• Open "Rocket Pool Ether" and "Lido Staked Ether" one by one and restake your rETH and stETH.
