Wallets...

Seeing that no one signed up using my referral for Protonmail, I gather people read my post and ignored or maybe just the first few lines eh?

Anyways, maybe one day someone realises the gems that are being dropped here 😜 they’re going to generously reward me. One can dream, you know.

Right, so to get you started on Crypto, my previous introduction post should help - if this is the first post that you’re reading, then go read my intro here. If you have already read my previous post, but haven’t setup anything, then, well, you’re not going to make it $NGMI 😜

Now that you have the introduction, I would suggest you follow my telegram channel as well…

Now, into the post…

Wallets. There are so many these days. TBH, the list of extensions that I have is so big that my address bar is very small these days. When I started Crypto four years back, there were a handful of wallets… Predominantly Metamask and Keplr. Wait, if I start talking about memories, this post will go too long so let me just stop my ranting here and tell you the wallets you must have to degen (buy shitcoins) or well, do anything in the world of Decentralisation.

My go-to wallet these days for any EVM related transaction is Rabby. It used to be Metamask, but I personally feel that they kinda wanted to become a monopoly and their airdrop speculation was, well, too long await. Too late, Metamask. Too late.

You can create a new wallet using Rabby either on a phone (iPhone and Android) or a browser (Chrome) or just a computer (Windows). All you need to do is go to

https://rabby.io/

and choose your platform. The following screenshots used in this tutorial are for a browser installation, you can follow further even if you choose a different platform - the instructions will be very similar.

Once you install the extension in your browser, make sure to click on the “Pin” button so the extension stay “visible” in your browser.

After this, you click on the Rabby wallet to begin. Click “Next” after you open the wallet.

Now if you are a new user, you click on “Create New Seed Phrase”. If you already have a wallet (like Metamask) then you can proceed to “Import Seed Phrase” to import your metamask seeds.

Once you click on “Create New Seed Phrase” Rabby opens it in a new tab for you since it’s not easy to do all these in the browser extension window. Read the instructions carefully, every word they say is accurate, do not assume otherwise. After you have understood the texts on the page, click on “Show Seed Phrase”.

The next page will give you a twelve word list. Make sure you write this down - I repeat, write this down (do not copy and paste it in a notepad or anywhere digitally). I would suggest you buy a new notebook, one that is dedicated to storing your seed phrases. I would caption it a “Black Book” and would keep it away from anyone other than your immediate family.

After you have noted down those seed phrases, click “I’ve Saved the Phrase”.

Typically Rabby associates about 50 addresses when you create a new wallet. A degen (one who trades shitcoins) would need more than a 50 wallet, but I would suggest you settle for just two wallets for now (you can enable however many you want later as well). So click on the “Add to Rabby” slide button for the first two wallets. You may rename the wallets as well - something like I’ve done in the example below.

These are all your Wallet Addresses
These are all your Wallet Addresses

You click on “Done” and that’s it. So what’s a “Wallet Address”? It’s an unique address, that belongs only to you. That is, if you or anyone sends any kind of crypto to that address, it’ll be yours and yours only. No one (not even Rabby or even Ethereum founder Mr. Vitalik Buterin) can touch the assets in this wallet address other than you. Well, if you shared your “seed phrases” that we talked about earlier in the post, then yeah, whoever you shared it with, can control your assets. So be very careful with your seed phrase. You can share your wallet address with anyone, there’s no harm in that. The only downside is they’ll know it’s you!

Rabby has a point based system these days - potential for an airdrop - so if you want to reward me for giving you such good tips, click on the “Rabby Points” on the wallet and add the referral code “CRYPTOB3”

So what can you do with this Rabby wallet? Well, first of all you need to deposit some Crypto into the wallet so you would be able to transact. So how can you deposit Crypto into your self-custodial Wallet? Once again, there are so many YouTube videos out there that can explain this to you like you’re a 5 year old. I would also recommend you do that. But, here’s the part where I tell it to you anyway.

There are many ways to get crypto into your wallet, but the easiest way is to get it from a centralised exchange like Binance or MEXC. Like I said before, Rabby is one of the EVM chain wallets - EVM is Ethereum Virtual Machine. The blockchains that were created on top of Ethereum or based on Ethereum are called EVM Chains. There are hundreds and hundreds of EVMs available, with one getting added every day! Rabby currently supports 150 EVMs.

The chain I would suggest you to begin is Binance Smart Chain or BNB Chain. The gas fees here is very low - between $0.01 and $0.5 for a transaction. So you buy $BNB (today’s price is $550) - you don’t have to buy 1 $BNB - you can even buy 0.05 $BNB (~$28) and you can send that to your Rabby wallet. So once you buy this in a centralised exchange, there’s an option to “Withdraw” the crypto on-chain. You have to select “Binance Smart Chain” as the chain to withdraw to and select all $BNB you have there. The address to withdraw the Crypto to is your wallet address.

If you have any more questions related to this, you can always use the “Comment” section on my Telegram Channel to ask and I will answer it whenever I’m available.

Psst, wanna know how many wallets I have? See below - this is not even one percent of the wallets that’s out there.

Just about 15 wallets...

See you in a next post - hopefully soon.
