Golden and history about wiki

Wiki (English wiki) is a website whose content users can independently change using the tools provided by the site itself. Formatting the text and inserting various objects into the text is done using wiki markup. In particular, Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects are based on these principles.

Wikipedia is a multilingual website based on wiki technology. The owner and organizer of the project is the Wikimedia Foundation (Wikimedia Foundation Inc.), based in the USA. Wikipedia was created on January 15, 2001 as an English-language project to create an Internet encyclopedia, where any user can edit articles and add their own.

At that time, it was a real revolution in the segment of Veb1.0, people could find a large number of information from one device sitting at home, no longer needed to draw information from different printed sources or from individual little information sites, it was enough to open Wikipedia and not only read, but also write their articles, which is unambiguous attracted a lot of attention and marked the beginning of one of the tenets of Veb 2.0 , namely user interaction within applications .

Online encyclopedias have become popular reference resources with the development of the Internet in the context of a rapid increase in the volume of information. The virtual form of presenting encyclopedic information has opened up new prospects in the development of publications of this genre, allowed format changes (search on request without flipping pages, image search, more text, links, no need for abbreviations to save paper) and increased accessibility to the general public, both in terms of free access to information and in terms of public participation in the formation of content.

Online encyclopedias, as well as paper ones, can be universal (describing topics from all the most important fields of knowledge), and subject-based (general-subject, specialized or thematic). According to the method of creation, network encyclopedias can be divided into two large groups: copies of paper encyclopedias created from scratch for the Internet and digitized and posted online. As a rule, the latter are focused only on presenting information, while the former are interactive and allow their readers to be editors as well.

All this has changed the essence of the Internet and made it clear to humanity how important and necessary it is in the modern information world .

The beginning of such an idea was born back in 1991 , when the Internet as such was just beginning its development . Then a team from the Usenet group started a project to create a real version of a Guide for hitchhikers around the Galaxy , the ideological representative of which was Douglas Adams , the project developed and if initially it included only scientific articles from the real world , but then the project was filled with completely different news products and by 2000 included more than 1,700 articles , which it was incredibly much for that time .however, since 2000, the addition of new articles has stopped; probably partly due to the founding of h2g2, a more official project among similar lines.

In a short time , this project could be replaced by more promising competitors , with a tool for interacting with users . Thanks to the success and rapid development of Wikipedia in the 2000s, the rapid development of such online encyclopedias began. Many of them were founded by Wikipedia participants who have an alternative point of view on what a free Internet encyclopedia should be[4]. Currently, most Internet encyclopedias, both "general" and narrowly focused, describing any specific areas, are built on wiki technology. Of these, perhaps only the Chinese Encyclopedia Baidu can compete with Wikipedia in size and attendance.

Currently, there are a huge number of such information sources for every taste and color: Wikipedia, Genius, later there were excellent information fields from Google , Yandex, Yahoo and so on.
