Today, we cannot live without earning money. While money allows us to obtain almost all kinds of things, “living” itself isn’t possible without making continuous efforts to earn money.
We cling to jobs that are never “fun” and work we don’t want to do –not simply “uninteresting,” but socially considered “pointless” even economically considered “right”. –We fall into a situation where we have to do the “work we don’t want to do”.
Even as society’s efforts to maximize each person’s own profit inevitably damage the global environment, and the signs of climate change disaster are everywhere, people are still forced to do work that they are not truly satisfied with in order to “live”. But isn’t that strange? I can hear people saying, “That’s the way work is,” or “That’s the way we all live,” but I don’t think it’s necessary to give up on life so quickly.
It’s not difficult to find another way to make a new society, instead of continuing to do something you don’t really enjoy and leaving a debt for the future. Heartland is a group of people who provide services to each other through the medium of HEART token that is not tied to legal tender.
No land which is dominated, no borders, everyone is welcome to join.
Heartland is run entirely democratically by its participants.
Let’s take a look at what’s “Heartland” from several aspects.
From an individual user’s point of view, Heartland is a social networking service (SNS) platform for person-to-person transactions.
The app provided by Heartland will have the look and feel of an Facebook-like social networking service, with a list of services available to you within Heartland displayed on your timeline, and you’ll be able to register for services yourself (a prototype is currently in development).
At first glance, it may look like one of the services currently offered on the Internet, but the fact that you have complete control over the personal information exchanged on the platform and that Heartland itself is not trying to make a profit from it, makes it completely different from previous services.
Heartland does not sell your information to third parties for profit. In the world of Web 2.0, personal information is sold by platform companies. Information about people’s friendships and the content of their posts was sold as marketing material “with personally identifiable information redacted”.
Heartland, however, believes that the platform should belong to everyone, and as a Web 3.0 platform, Heartland makes everything transparent and verifiable.
Heartland also mediates transactions between people with its own tokens, but does not profit from them. Platform services provided by profit-seeking companies charge a fee in legal tender for mediating transactions between individuals. For example, Mercari charges a 10% commission, and Jimotee charges a 5% commission, which is the platform company’s profit.
There is also the possibility of a “tax” being placed on transactions in Heartland. However, it will be done to to prevent excessive inflation. Heartland grants the proprietary tokens citizens each month as a “basic income. So, “Tax” is a method of regulation that control the value of token.
The purpose of Heartland is to create a new economic sphere that is independent of existing legal tender, and to operate a stable society in which we can say “Thank you” to each other.
Heartland has a mechanism in place to invite people to “thank you Economy”. Participation in a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO).
To become a Heartland citizen, you must either join one of the autonomous decentralized organizations (DAOs) that have already been created within Heartland, or create your own. Anyone can do either of these with simple in-app operations, but the number of people who can join a single DAO is limited to 150.
‘Person-to-person transactions’ within the face-to-face community are the foundation of the ‘thank you’ economy within the Heartland.
DAOs within the Heartland are required to make their own rules in a “direct democracy”
It is up to each DAO to decide what rules to set (we provide a template so it is easy to set default rules), but they must be agreed upon by the participants.
Currently, a community called “Koenji Space Lab” is being operated as a prototype.
Heartland citizens can belong to more than one DAO.
We will visit different communities that are also trading through HEART, and ask them to offer their services, and support free communication between Heartland citizens.
Even if it’s first time, you can judge if you can “trust” others by looking at their previous transaction history and mutual evaluation.
A foundation of trust is provided to create a “thank you economy” with numerous DAOs connected on the network.
In this way, the number of people participating in Heartland beyond the traditional borders will increase, and we can change the society where people cannot even live without earning “money”.
The driving force of people’s economic activity is their individual desire to better their relationships with others. It must not be the fear of death. Let’s work together to create a society where we give each other “thank you”s by doing work that builds an economic safety-net in our relationships with others, rather than continuing to do work we don’t want to do in order to survive.
