Hi! I’m AL3C - a singer/songwriter, web3 builder and collector 👋
These days my time is split between making new music, building creator infrastructure at Reveel and on-chain curation at Campfire. I’ve been at the crossroads of music and web3 since working on this book in 2017, but I rarely take the time to tell my story.
Today, I’m excited to share more about my history and announce AL3C Acoustic Sessions: a series of acoustic covers of my favorite songs in web3 music ⛓️
Fifteen years ago, I picked up a guitar for the first time. I was twelve years old with a serious case of ADHD, and it became the perfect outlet for my excess energy. I wasn’t very good at it in the beginning, but I loved it anyway. I would spend hours listening to my favorite Led Zeppelin and Queen guitar solos trying to figure them out note-by-note. On May 24th 2008, I began documenting the process publicly on YouTube.
By the time I made it to middle school, I realized that I enjoy singing almost as much as playing guitar. I’ll never forget the first time I sang & played a full song - it was “Grey Street” by Dave Matthews Band and I was in 7th grade. From then on, my focus shifted to doing full covers. Why just play along to a song when I could sing it too? I began performing as often as I possibly could. I played school events, weddings, even at my town’s local “Apple Festival” with my band Almost Famous 🍎

At some point, the acoustic covers that I shared on my YouTube channel became good enough that people began asking me to post them on SoundCloud and Spotify! This led me down the rabbit hole of GarageBand and music production. I became obsessed with reproducing my favorite instrumentals. The first time that I pulled it off was unforgettable - the song was “Lost” by Chance the Rapper featuring Noname. From there, I began to dream up my own songs. This set me on the path to find my own sound as a producer and songwriter.

I just listened to this cover for the first time in 7 years and it’s surprisingly great ⬆️
Many prominent artists (Justin Bieber, Alessia Cara) got their start covering other artists’ music on YouTube. There is an undeniable cover culture in web2 and on YouTube specifically. Over the past few years my cover videos have received over 1 million views, and I’ve built a community of over 10,000 subscribers. People often request covers and guitar lessons of their favorite songs, and I love putting my own spin on them! Here’s one of my favorites:
In 2023, I am on a mission to bring this culture to web3.
Many of my favorite songs today only exist in web3. Many of the artists responsible for these songs have not yet meaningfully crossed over to web2 / mainstream audiences. I want to do my part to introduce my web2 community to these songs and artists!
Starting this week, I will be minting a monthly acoustic cover of one of my favorite web3 songs. I will mint these covers only with the explicit approval of the artist.
The cover videos will be shared on LensTube and minted as Zora open editions lasting one month at very low prices (starting at ~$2). I am excited to provide an affordable way for fans and collectors to join my on-chain community without breaking the bank!
My goal is to elevate my favorite web3 music while driving revenue directly to the original artists. Thanks to custom Reveel revenue paths, I can ensure that the first 0.2 ETH raised from each cover goes directly to the original artist. After the 0.2 ETH milestone is met, a 50/50 split is activated for primary and secondary sales.
