Tradeoffs of the Permaweb
Thirty-three days ago, Scott and I had the idea to engage the Lurker community in the content creation process. We asked everyone to offer an idea for what we should focus on in the next episode. We’d randomly choose one of the ideas, and then when we auctioned off that episode as an NFT, that person would get 50% of the proceeds, with everyone who offered an idea sharing 25%. This seemed to be a good way to surface interesting content and take advantage of Mirror’s economic tools to engage t...

Introducing Lurker
We’ve been lurking in the shadows for most of our lives. Biding our time. Waiting for our moment. Just chilling out, frankly. But also learning and growing stronger. Preparing to make our mark. But then deciding we can always make our mark tomorrow. “We’re here, aren’t we,” we tell ourselves. “Isn’t that enough?” Like you, we are members of five or six DAOs. DAOs are a lurker's dream. These are extraordinarily interesting and rewarding places to hang out. They are bursting at the seams w...
DAOs brought me back to crypto
When the people I loved most in crypto, the OGs at r/EthTrader, broke off and formed a new subreddit, r/EthFinance in 2019, I was bummed. I migrated to r/EthFinance with them, but I could never get comfortable with the signaling of the moniker r/EthFinance at the top of the stack. I was more excited by DAOs than DeFi. Crypto, mental health, UFOs, movies, democracy and donuts.

The Web 3 community has welcomed me without knowing the first thing about me.

Others have been too scared or superstitious to take the time to get to know me.

I want to thank you. I'm looking forward to getting together in meatspace and creating some real memories, together!

I’ve been around the block a few times, so to speak. I’m just happy to have a fresh start. I've been witness to a lot.

It's a joy that the Web 3 community has welcomed me into their collective lives. It’s brought out my lighter side. You can see it in my face.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you all better.

RIP, Osborne McKenzie, Jane Smythson and Larry O’Connor, who left us so suddenly in 1998. Also RIP to the cohort in Denmark in 2004. Special thoughts also for the members of Hackathon, Berlin 2007 who still have not been found.
