Happy New Year Everyone!!! We made it. 52 weeks have passed by and we have made a pandemic a living reality. It’s insane realizing two years have gone by. As humans, one of our key traits is our ability to adapt — we have figured a new reality/normal within this world we find ourselves and albeit not perfect, we are iterating as we go.
2021 was quite the year. One of my biggest focuses was the crypto bull run. After understanding the cyclical nature of bitcoin around its halving, i doubled down starting from 2020 on the prime asset prepping ahead of the bull-run. Let’s just say, it was not regretted. I am not a maxi and as a result, i had more than one dog in the crypto fight. As a result, it was a mixed bag of experiences, but in summation, i didn’t bleed. A huge learning curve, exposure to DeFi, interesting projects amongst other things.
As we stride into the future and the year that is 2022, many have made predictions and i have taken some time to peruse some of these. My favorite document so far has been the Messari 2022 thesis. Shout out to TwoBitIdiot and the team for a detailed body of work.
In 2022, i intend to step back from actively checking the Delta crypto portfolio tracking app and instead leveraging my experience to work in the space, by building something to add value as well as contributing to DAOs or consulting for existing organizations. I think this will be one of the best pivots I will be making and a better investment of my time (as opposed to checking price go up or down). I have worked in Digital Transformation (Agile Transformations) for the past 7 years and it can’t be ignored that Bitcoin started off the Digital Transformation of money as we know it.
Transformations take time, meet resistance, skepticism, fear, and a bunch of other things, but most times, they are inevitable. They don’t necessarily debunk the old ways of doing things, but they suggest and offer better ways things can be done. This is how i view crypto and one of the lenses i would like to parse my crypto journey through.
I predict in the not so distant future, many organizations or subcomponents within organizations will follow ShapeShift’s & Erik Voorhees’ lead in undergound what i’ll tag DAO Transformations. Simply put, a DAO Transformation is the process where centralized (or should i unfairly say legacy) organizations embark on a journey of decentralization from a governance and operational standpoint.
Much simpler in a couple of lines than in reality. I have been researching ShapeShift’s journey and it’s quite the POC. If i am to make any prediction, this is my one prediction, however; it is not limited to 2022. As the saying goes “innovate or die”, DAO transformations would become a necessary ingredient for success in years to come. Maybe it’s the Agilist in me, but i believe DAOs are an iteration of agility. Self-organized teams are preached by Scrum and Agile as a whole. On my journey to better understand Erik Voorhees and the ShapeShift journey amongst other organizations that have made similar transitions (while also talking to existing organizations that started as DAOs not requiring a transformation), I will collect best practices, models, suggestions, tools and more. The goal is to document this on the reserved domain www.daoplaybook.com as a resource that periodically would be updated.
I’m excited to watch the next 365 days unravel. We all just minted 1/365.
Happy New Year!!!
