I caught the bug… the blockchain bug, that is.

2021 was a year of change for me. I left my Senior Data Analyst/Finance Manager job at a large corporation to upscale my coding skills at a six-month-long Data Analytics Bootcamp. What brought on this career change was I created a lot of complex dashboards in PowerBI and Tableau, which required a bit of coding. I quickly realized coding wasn’t this giant challenging monster that non-tech people fear.

While the data journey was taking place, I learned about the crypto space. Like many new people in the crypto space, I leaped into investing in crypto projects in early 2021 with all the hype around Bitcoin, Ethereum, & Dogecoin. Quickly, I learned never to buy at the top of the markets. As the markets crashed in May, I FREAKED out and sold many of my holdings at a loss.

You would think that I would have stopped my crypto journey there, but I learned from my mistakes. Now I buy during times of Extreme Fear and sell during times of Extreme Greed, which has worked out exceptionally well. Even though my journey began with a financial loss, I fell in love with the blockchain space. You can say that I came for the profits but stayed for the tech.

As an adult with ADHD, I rarely find topics and passions that interest me for more than a few months, but with crypto, it was different. For over a year now, it’s all I think about. I have never had a passion or interest that has lasted this long while at the same time consuming most of my day. Coding in blockchain combines all the stuff I love, such as the challenge of coding, emerging tech, and following financial markets. So why not make this my job.

During this newfound interest in the blockchain space, I was too deep into my Data Analytics BootCamp to change course. The BootCamp mainly focused on SQL databases, Python coding, machine learning, dashboarding, and web development. There are no regrets about the Data BootCamp because it gave me a solid coding base, but I learned most of the blockchain development space isn’t as heavy on Python as I had hoped.

So that brings me to my next pivot. Now, I am beginning my journey as a blockchain developer. In my next post, I plan to layout my road map. After which, I will give updates about how my coding process is going.
