We are designing a simple interface for interaction with the new web. Your personal base layer to web3. Each browser installed will exist as a node or ‘PØRTAL’ in the protocol, private to you and entirely under your control. When you want to connect with others, you connect to their pørtal directly. To link to assets, dapps, protocols, other networks & etc, you use your pørtal's 'SØUL', a soulbound-like digital ID that acts as your decentralized public key, kind of like your address, wallet, and digital self in 1-key. Your søul, it’s passkey, and everything you own is totally non-custodial and belong to you only. The søul registry will be live and deployed to the blockchain. To avoid spam we will introduce scarcity. While there is a 0% protocol wide fee, the number of søuls will have a limit and minting a søul will run exactly at gas cost.

Søuls allow us to search and aggregate all our activities and bind them to ourselves. In the Portal browser we can visualize our own contacts, investments, activity, and creations, while connecting to those of our peers and discovering new ones!

Drawing inspiration from great projects like Urbit, while designing for adoption, we are optimizing smart contracts for security, performance, mechanics design, composability, and gas efficiency. Each individual user’s experience is highest value in the protocol, and we are researching how to build the most seamless and secure protocol for a hassle-free experience.

Everyone wants to onboard a billion users, but we understand that for most of us to make the jump to web3, we need to make a browser that offers a much more human & social experience to curating and creating on the web. Web browsing and search has to be fun, relevant and accessible. To beat the Google Chromes', and other traditional browsers, we are researching new ways for indexing and graphing human thought. By using ML & AI to keep our digital gardens kempt, we can search a network of interconnected ideas, activities, and thoughts, clustered by how they associate with each other and with us.

To win at web3, we also need to improve the currently fragmented experience from Day-0 by helping you:

• Sync all of your wallets and NFTs to manage your entire portfolio in 1-view.

• See all of your txn history & blockchain activity.

• Browse and connect to all your favorite dapps & protocols.

We want to take back power from the few extractive, centralized establishments, towards a better, fairer internet. We strongly believe in ownership, transparency, and sovereignty as the main values in decentralization. Hence, the protocol will be owned by you, the community, with The Portal DAO listening carefully to your feedback to lead development until launch and progressively decentralize by expanding DAO ownership to the community.

By open-sourcing Portal and building in public alongside you all, Portal becomes a tool for a social movement that creates the good the public wants and will find the most collectively rewarding.

This crowdfund’s goal is to raise the talent, money, and feedback we need to build the vision for Portal as well as the tokenomic model that will be the most rewarding and incentivizing for all users participating in the protocol. A model that will signal reputation and offer liquidity to all.

The Portal DAO will initially manage the treasury and organize public goods and airdrop distributions to initial investors as we build. As we mature these responsibilities will shift to all members that participate in the DAO.
