He was labeled the “Most Hated Man in America”
Martin Shkreli.
A name you probably haven’t heard of in a while.
He has been through a lot.
You have to admit he is really a man of fortitude.
Let’s see what he went through over the past few years.
He was accused of raising drug prices and making it unattainable for those who really need it.
He was convicted of securities fraud and went to jail for 5 years.
He was vitriolized and hated.
He became an internet meme and everyone laughed at him.
They even called him “Pharma Bro”.
He was the modern day super villain everyone detested.
Essentially, in terms of making it in life, you can’t go any lower than he did.

He paid his dues and went to jail for 5 years.
Did he stay down?
Nah.
He went to jail, read up on web3, re-educated himself in an entirely new field and plotted his next steps upon release.
He learnt about Defi, used Uniswap, studied Bitcoin and swam into the waterfalls of Web3 like no tomorrow.
Rumours were, he even had a web3 club while in jail.
Now, he has a new web3 company.
“The disgraced pharmaceutical executive is now behind a Web3 based drug discovery platform called Druglike, that seeks to increase the accessibility of drug discovery through decentralized computing.”
He did this while still in a halfway house.
I don’t know if I hate him or not, but I do respect his attitude to life.
Did he learn his lesson?
Who knows.
But did he resign himself to his fate and give up?
Nope.
He rebuilt, relearn, strategized and chartered his own path ahead.
That’s the power of Web3, decentralised and permissionless.
Even someone as tainted and scarred as Martin in society, can have a second life in the world of web3.

Martin is back for his second act, in web3.
Would anyone offer Martin a job in real life?
I doubt, given his criminal record and reputation.
But with Web3, he doesn’t need to ask for permission and code is the only law.
I can’t say I agree with Martin on everything he did, but he really is one persistence and intelligent fighter who refuses to stay down.
Oh and check this out.
“Outside of the Daraprim scandal, he also became known for acquiring Wu Tang Clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, a one-of-a-kind album later acquired by PleasrDAO.”
