Ever since we opened the .earth Discord on April 22, Earth Day we’ve been fairly cryptic about the purpose, goals and vision behind .earth. While we’ve shared some information publicly, we intend to provide more clarity on the project in this update.
In December 2021, we decided we were going to open the Discord to the public on Earth Day 2022, April 22. Initially, our goal was to be minting by then but in order to deliver a platform for an innovative Web3 experience, which was always our intention, we realized the need to spend time weaving the narrative for our Nomads into our product, moving away from the traditional model of a single utility centric NFT mint. Nomads will have a critical role in our platform build out.
To date, our Discord has almost 1,000 members and our Twitter followers are steadily growing, currently ~1100. We strive to continue building a truly organic following and engagement in future months.
We have released two free claim NFTs to our OGs and early community members.
.earth postcards (April 27, 2022)
500 free claim NFTs were given to the .earth community. The utility of the .earth postcards has yet to be revealed but we expect these will be valuable closer to mint.

.earth animal club (June 5th, 2022)
50 free claim NFTs were given to the .earth community that will be redeemable for animal themed handles/subdomains (e.g .elephant → elephant.earth.eth).

We think of Nomads as a symbol of the growing community of global Web3 users. Where we are is constantly changing based on what we’re building, speculating on, using or about to meme. While we won’t be launching our Nomads NFT collection at NFT NYC, we do plan to engage the Nomads of Web3 attending the conference. We’re going to be giving away iconic Nomad t-shirts to those who share meme-worthy spottings of people in the wild at NFT NYC, whether it is of characters giving off great vibes, participating in quirky activities, or doing some seriously cool out-of-the-box Web3 stuff using the hashtag “#nomads” in their tweets. We will DM winners a location to meet one of our team members towards the end of the week to pickup their .earth merch!
By now we’re sure you’ve seen sneak peaks of our Nomads on the .earth social channels. The term “Nomad” was chosen to embody the .earth persona because of its alignment with our digitally nomadic lives and identities in today’s growing Web3 ecosystem.
Web3 represents a shift in how and what you own and how people perceive and observe you not only in the digital sense, but also in real life. Nomads provide us with a sense of freedom, choice, and sense of adventure in where we choose to be, transcending traditional geographic, economic and social boundaries.

The Nomad face represents the juxtaposition or uneven overlapping of different aspects of ourselves. On the left, the Nomads are physically rooted in surreal geographies around the world. On the right, the physical landscapes are abstracted away, just as we are in our virtual worlds. The eyes are a striking feature of the Nomad, depicting masculine and feminine, open and closed identities and personas.

Each landscape represented in the Nomad PFPs are depictions of real-world places, containing meaningful memories, desires, hopes and inspirations. From the Avenue of the Baobabs, to the Twelve Apostles, the Hyperion Tree and the Sydney Opera House, the Nomad toys the line between real and surreal while they enjoy their passage of time in .earth.
moment
The moment layer constitutes time, a critical element. The positioning of celestial bodies, as well as colors of the sky tell us stories of night and day, twilight zones, meteor showers, winter equinoxes and summer solstices, all encompassing symbolic moments in the travelling lives of Nomads.
objects in the sky
Various objects populate the skies in the world of Nomads, symbolising elements of absurdity and wonder. Some denote significant human feats, while others personify curiosity and mystery.
other surprises
Other layers will remain a mystery that will be revealed at the time of mint.
The Nomads are not just a pfp/avatar project. They are key to onboarding users onto the .earth ecosystem. By the time of minting we expect to share the details of multiple innovations tied to these mysterious avatars. What we have revealed so far is that Nomads will be NFTs that are subdomains of earth.eth, a recent innovation of the ENS protocol. These subdomains (e.g alex.earth.eth, wagmi.earth.eth) will also function as handles (e.g .alex, .wagmi) in the .earth ecosystem. Other utilities and innovations are still being developed and finalized and we will share them as soon as we can button up specifics.
.earth is re-thinking everything about our Web3 behaviors in this rapidly evolving industry, from wallet activity, to NFT presentation and blockchain exploration. Your digital identity is something you can now own and control in more ways than one. The innovation of this product and key concepts behind it will be shared as we reach key milestones in our development. Nomads will be first users and much more for the product being designed and built.

With multiple tracks in progress, it is difficult to provide firm dates and timelines. What we can promise you is that you will have at least a 2 week notice before minting for Nomads begins. As for the rest of the product build out, we will share those timelines as our legal and tech partners permit.
