when the story of elysia first began, i told a story titled ‘salvation’. it was a story of acceptance to powers far larger than ourselves, and idea that has encompassed the world of elysia. the higher powers frequently flirt with the earthly world, as powers of order and chaos bend the minds of beast, man, and machine alike…

since the world’s first moments, i had envisioned its end. elysia has always led to a final destination, the great dance beyond, articulated through the written lore of some of my first pieces on the blockchain.
i’ve conceptualized the great dance beyond as a collective ascent to a higher form of consciousness, in which all living beings would become part of a hivemind existing beyond material planes. this was an idea i explored with genesis II, my first ever NFT of the ETH blockchain, in which the age of beasts ends, ushering in the age of man.

having played in the world of elysia over the past year and a half, i feel ready to visit the end of the main timeline on the earthly plane. i’ve begun to revisit my physical process, and have created three works, each experimental in their own regard while reflecting on the moments after the world ends.
the great beyond series explores life after death, the search for meaning, self reflection, and our relationships with one another.

in i found god in a field of flowers, i combined my first work with gouache with a digital animation, capturing both the old and the new. in this piece, a single figure, imagined to be a post-life incarnation of the protagonist of elysia (named the prophet), stands while watching a set of symbols move and change in front of it.
these circular symbols, present throughout my more recent work, imagine eyes at the center of my other motifs, such as stars, plants, and crosses, also present throughout the work. each one of these symbols is moving and fluid, and can change into other closely related symbols through animation. as a whole, this work seeks to combine the extent of my artistic trajectory, reflecting on my use of symbolism and other media to convey a sense of magic and peace.

the second piece of the series, contemplation xvx // himmel blau, marks a lonely soul’s journey into the afterlife. the world around them is strange, yet familiar, as they gaze upon a shooting star leading them into the great dance beyond.
this piece was largely a color study for me; i wanted to incorporate a very large range of iridescent colors while still focusing in on the blue that defines the piece. i used a very familiar square cropping and composition to go fully abstract, saturating the work with symbolism in a delicate manner.

the final piece in the series, father and child // resurrection, focuses on the relationship between two core characters, dear father and the child. while both of these characters are all-powerful AI in bodies made from an otherworldly material, dear father is a powerful, tactical, angry overlord while the child is an empathetic, curious, and caring machine. being the last two major characters left alive after the world ends, they are forced to reconcile their relationship…
this piece returns to more familiar ground for me, working with elements such as figures, heavy borders, and a moody environment. i feel that this piece ties together the curiosity posed by the first two pieces, leaving no doubt about who dies and who is left to rebuild the world.

this past weekend, i had the exciting opportunity to display these three pieces (minus the animation for i found god in a field of flowers) at a local art gallery, which gave me one of my first opportunities to display my art in a physical capacity and receive live feedback on it. i couldn’t be more proud of these pieces and what they each represent, and will be moving them on chain.
beginning monday, 9/12, i will be minting this series through my tales from elysia smart contract. each piece will be minted and auctioned sequentially, and i am so excited for these pieces to find a new home. bids will begin at 0.69 ETH for each piece. while we may be visiting the end of elysia, the story is far from over…
