Coming out... as a fiction author

Hi all! Thanks for joining me here. My name is Xenia, and I am a fiction author. As well as a PR professional @ Rarible, a web3 enthusiast, a mom and a twin – but writer is the side of me that I have never properly talked about. So this post and the next ones are all about my books!

I have been writing fiction for as long as I can remember. At any given moment there are always multiple plots and stories unfolding in my head, and I can write for hours if I have uninterrupted time (tricky with a 1 year old, lol). I consider myself a new writer, but I do have a book that I published online, a fantasy-romance story I wrote when I was younger and shared on Wattpad 4 years ago. Since then it has been read by 35,000 people and I keep receiving likes and comments on a weekly basis. One of my biggest motivations to date!

I also realized that soon it will be five years since I shared my writings with the world. Why has it been so hard for me to do? (please let me know if you can relate!)

  • I didn’t know how to brand myself. I have book in different genres, and I held on to the idea that I should first “make it” in one area, to be able to try other things. Pretty much, putting heavy restrictions on myself before I even get start

  • I didn’t fit submission guidelines in literary agencies (or at least I thought so). What if my first ten pages still need polishing? What if they don’t like me?

While I still don’t have solutions to all these questions, my intention is just to start putting out there what I have. I will be sharing separate chapters, describing the concepts and talking about my characters. I chose mirror.xyz as a platform because it’s aligned with my values and web3 community (which is always going to be a big part of my life and work!)

Currently I have several projects in the works, to name but a few:

  • A sequel to my first book, fantasy-romance fiction exploring one of my favourite themes in the world mythology – nymphs! (which is also in a way a story about growing up and finding your voice as a woman)

  • A dystopian novel about a boy who discovers that he can hold his breath for minutes after an incident, and is now forced to learn how to free dive to look for precious object from the ocean floor

  • A Ukrainian-Canadian comes to the small village on Dnipr river for the first time to visit his grandmother, just in time for the ancient Kupala Night celebration. His cousin disappears under mysterious circumstances on the night of the celebration.

  • A detective/action story that starts with… NFTs! The main character purchases a random NFT hoping to find the next CryptoPunks, and get sucked into an IRL (“in real life”) quest that takes him to British Columbia.

As you can see, these are very different stories that I’m equally passionate about. My intention is to start sharing my work with the world consistently, even if it’s not perfect or polished yet. I’m also looking for guidance and representation to help my work reach as many people as possible. I want to be of service and share the best of what I have with everybody, which I believe is my books.

Thanks for reading <3
