Week 1 with OpenClaw: building a personal AI ops system in 5 days

In the last few years, I've had two "holy sh*t" moments in AI.

The first one was discovering ChatGPT.

The second one was discovering OpenClaw.

I've only been using it for about five days, and the speed at which it lets you go from idea -> system -> execution is unreal. So this is a quick, unscripted Week 1 showcase of what I built with my OpenClaw agent (who named himself Atlas).

What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent you run on your own computer. You connect it to whichever AI model you want (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and then you can connect it to tools like Telegram, Notion, browser control, search, and more. The important part: it's not just chat. It can actually do things across your stack.

Meet Atlas

When I onboarded the agent, I gave it a huge brain dump about who I am and what I'm building.

I call my mission the Exponential Universe. I asked it to choose a name for this adventure. It chose Atlas: I'm exploring and expanding, and Atlas holds the world so it can grow.

The first two integrations:

Telegram + Notion First I connected Atlas to Telegram so I can message it from my phone or computer. Then I connected it to Notion so the outputs of our conversations don't get lost in an infinite chat history. The loop is: brainstorm in Telegram -> Atlas writes structured outputs into Notion -> Atlas can read Notion and help me choose priorities.

What we built in Week 1

  1. North Star objectives (with time horizons) and prioritized tasks

  2. A daily Morning Brief (via Brave Search) that is personalized to my goals, with action items for me and for Atlas

  3. Documented processes with versioning (so the system improves over time)

  4. Weekly Wins logging + a Friday-style weekly report 5

Builder Journal + Open Loops reports to convert chaos into structure and resurface unfinished items 6) The first public artifact: a barebones OpenClaw directory (websites, use cases, tool stack) that is already live

Why this matters

In a few days we went from "I've never used OpenClaw before" to a functioning operating system for building: objectives, tasks, reporting, and a live project - mostly built from conversation.

What's next

I want to keep doing these weekly recaps (every Friday) so we have a clear artifact of progress. If you catch the lives, feel free to ask questions. Happy to share what I'm learning and help people get started.
And we also created the OpenClaw index to document everything we learn about this new technology and open source it to everyone: https://independentacademy.org/
