WHY I DESIGN? | @sargent.the.creator

My name is Edwin, a 3D artist and graphic designer from Accra, Ghana.

I started practicing art at a young age, initially using my cellphone to create designs.

When I got my first PC, I knew I could create better art and designs, but it wasn't until the Covid pandemic that I decided to improve my digital art skills.

During quarantine, I discovered 3D art on YouTube and fell in love with it.

Blender, an open-source software, was the best software to learn 3D, and I was able to create 3D scenes within two months of downloading it and watching tutorials.

I improved my skills in Blender and Photoshop and shared my creations on social media, which led to people requesting my skills and turned my hobby into a business. I am glad I pursued my passion for art as it has brought me great fulfilment.

Art has always been a significant part of my life, providing solace and an outlet for my creativity. With digital art,

I can realise the worlds and ideas in my head, making it the ideal medium for me.

### The potential for innovation is limitless, and I am constantly exploring fresh ways to express myself through my artwork.

Art has opened doors for me that I never imagined.

I can share my work with people worldwide and turn my passion into a career. I'm grateful for this journey, as art and digital art have brought comfort and creativity into my life.

My day as an artist begins with a workout to boost my energy, followed by a quick shower, getting dressed, tidying my room, and a 10-20 minute walk to clear my mind.

After breakfast, as a graphic designer and 3D artist, I spend most of my day working on client projects, with occasional breaks for personal art projects and experimentation.

I take an afternoon break to recharge by doing something for myself, such as playing video games, watching anime, going for a swim, or spending time with friends. I then prepare for the next day and get ready for bed, finding my routine simple and balanced for productivity and self-care.

Initially, I was fearful of AI art and its potential to replace human artists, including myself. However, I eventually realised that human creativity and imagination have no limits, making it impossible for AI to fully replace us. I now see AI as a tool that can enhance my creativity rather than a threat to my artistry.

As an artist, I reflect on my journey and offer advice to aspiring artists.

One lesson I learned is to never let others' opinions discourage your passion.

Early on, I faced criticism and skepticism from those who didn't understand the art world.

I was told digital art was a waste of time and wouldn't lead to success.

But I didn't let those words get to me. I knew deep down that I had a gift for creating art, and I was determined to do that no matter what.

And I'm glad I did, because now I'm able to make a living doing what I love, and I have a portfolio of work that I'm truly proud of.

Another important piece of advice for artists is to be patient and persistent.

If you're starting a business or a side hustle as an artist, it's easy to get discouraged when you don't get the recognition you think you deserve right away. But trust me, it gets better over time.

I remember feeling invisible and like no one was noticing the effort I was putting in.

But I kept grinding, kept creating, and kept putting myself out there. And eventually,

my hard work paid off, and I started to receive recognition and opportunities for my art.

My advice to aspiring artists is to stay focused, trust the process, and never give up on your dreams.

The art world is full of opportunities for unique perspectives and incredible talents.
