We’re excited to announce our third Flamingo Flutter drop, featuring the Fluxus collection by generative artist Monotau.

Flamingo Flutter
Since its inception, The Flamingo community has steadily supported generative art. Flamingo Flutter was launched in collaboration with Art Blocks as a way to celebrate and support this art category and the talented artists involved.
Flamingo Flutter is powered by DAO members and Art Blocks. Members of the community work with generative artists to create collections curated exclusively for Flutter. Collectors can then mint these works on a first-come, first-serve basis. Previous drops have included Kenny Vaden’s World series and Leggenda by Stefan Contiero. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on the Fluxus collection with generative artist, Monotau, for our third official Flutter drop.
Artists interested in joining the Flamingo Flutter platform are encouraged to submit a form here.
Introducing Monotau
Monotau has always been passionate about generative art and the development of complex 3D worlds. Through the 2000s, Monotau’s earliest focus was on minimalism and experimentation with lines and abstract composition. They were drawn towards architecture, developing a deep interest in 3D computer-generated renderings. Through this exploration into architecture, Monotau discovered what they consider to be one of their most important inspirations: Iakov Chernikhov’s 1931 book, “The Construction of Architectural and Machine Forms.”

Chernikhov used simple building blocks, like lines and cylinders, that evolved into abstract architectural forms. These methods influenced Monotau to reorient their approach, with their subsequent works incorporating Chernikhov’s methods. The introduction of on-chain generative art later provided a new, more flexible avenue for Monotau’s art, removing many of the technical limitations previously encountered through formerly available resources.
The Fluxus Series
Fluxus is a collection of complex, organic-looking and abstract forms rendered in style between 2D art and 3D sculpture. The series bridges generative art with computer demoscene and architectural form. The core of the Fluxus generative script is a variant of the marching cubes algorithm, a popular 3D reconstruction surface rendering method. The intention is for the renderings to replicate Chernikhov’s aesthetic feel where everything was made of simple lines, wire, paper strips or melted plastic.

Rendering for Fluxus is done in segments, layer-by-layer, using a fixed top projection. As a result, some scenes elicit a 2D feel with the depth of a 3D scene. Others are more akin to 3D sculptures or architectural forms. Each unique scene starts with one of 31 initial shapes and evolves using the parameters extracted from the transaction hash. These changes, usually specific to a given shape, may include a different rendering style, scale, scene development, and level of deconstructing.

Drop Details
The sale of Monotau’s Fluxus series will start with a pre-sale at 12pm ET on February 21st to Flamingo and friends of Flamingo.
The public mint will begin at 12pm ET on February 22nd. Mint price will be 0.35 ETH with 500 mints available, sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. Limit 1 per wallet.
