From 2015 to 2021, the permanent resident population increased by 140000, 220000, 240000, 190000, 160000, 110000 and 100000 per year, an increase of 0.23%, 0.37%, 0.40%, 0.31%, 0.26%, 0.18% and 0.16% respectively.

The degree of population aging continues to deepen

By the end of 2021, the population aged 0-15 in the province was 12.18 million, accounting for 19.92% of the population of the province; The population aged 16-59 is 37.49 million, accounting for 61.33%; The population aged 60 and above is 11.46 million, accounting for 18.75%, of which the population aged 65 and above is 9.44 million, accounting for 15.44%. Compared with 2020, the population aged 0-15 decreased by 290000, the population aged 16-59 increased by 400000, the population aged 60 and over decreased by 10000, and the population aged 65 and over increased by 280000. The proportion of people aged 65 and over increased by 0.43 percentage points over 2020, and the degree of aging further deepened. The increase of working age population aged 16-59 is mainly due to the small number of people born in 1961. According to the population age structure of our province, the number and proportion of working age population will continue the previous downward trend in the future.

The level of urbanization has increased steadily

With the expansion of urban areas and the inflow of rural population into cities and towns in our province, and the return of population from outside the province to urban areas in our province, the urbanization process of the permanent resident population in our province has been accelerated. At the end of 2021, the permanent resident population in cities and towns in our province was 36.31 million, an increase of 710000 over the end of 2020; The permanent resident population in rural areas was 24.82 million, a decrease of 610000. The urbanization rate of permanent residents was 59.39%, an increase of 1.06 percentage points over the end of 2020, 0.23 percentage points faster than that of the whole country, ranking second in the middle and first in the Yangtze River Delta.

The return of population has become the main reason for the growth of permanent population

From the perspective of the six central provinces, in 2021, the increment of permanent resident population in our province ranked second. Except Hubei and our province, the permanent resident population in the six central provinces showed negative growth. Under the background of the continuous decline of the birth rate and the rise of the mortality rate, the contribution of the natural growth of the population to the growth of the permanent population continues to weaken, and the population flow plays an increasingly important role in the growth of the permanent population in all provinces. During the 2020 census, the population return of our province was 20000, which increased to 97000 in 2021, and the contribution rate to the growth of the permanent population increased from 18% to 97%.
