In the year 2150, the world had become vastly overpopulated. The cities had expanded to the point where there was hardly any room for people to live. Food and resources were scarce, and the cost of living was sky-high. Most people struggled to make ends meet, and the poor were getting poorer every day.
Enterprising companies had found a way to capitalise on this situation. They began selling plots of land on the outskirts of the cities at exorbitant prices. These plots of land were nothing more than barren wastelands that were unsuitable for farming or building, but people were desperate enough to buy them anyway.
One such company was called TerraNova. They had a reputation for selling the most worthless pieces of land, but people still lined up to buy from them. TerraNova had a marketing slogan that went, "If you want to be somebody, you have to own something."
One day, a man named John walked into TerraNova's office. He was a poor farmer who had been struggling to make a living in the city. John had heard about TerraNova's dirt and was curious to see what it was all about.
He was greeted by a slick sales representative who showed him a map of the available plots of land. John was shocked to see that the prices had gone up since the last time he had checked. The sales representative assured him that the price was worth it, as the land would be worth millions in the future.
John was skeptical, but he was also desperate. He decided to buy a small plot of land and was given a certificate of ownership. He went home feeling a sense of accomplishment, thinking that he had finally done something to secure his future.
Months went by, and John visited his plot of land often. He had dreams of building a small house and starting a farm there. But every time he went, he saw nothing but barren wasteland. He tried to plant some crops, but they wouldn't grow in the dry soil.
One day, John heard about a new invention called the "land rejuvenator." It was a machine that could turn barren wastelands into fertile farmlands. John was ecstatic and decided to invest in one. He spent all his savings on the machine and brought it to his plot of land.
The machine worked wonders, and soon the soil was fertile and ready for planting. John's dream of starting a farm on his own land was finally coming true. He worked hard, planting crops and tending to them every day.
But one day, he received a notice from TerraNova. They claimed that they had made a mistake and that John's plot of land was not for sale after all. They demanded that he vacate the land immediately, or they would take legal action.
John was devastated. He had invested all his savings and hard work into the land, only to have it taken away from him. He tried to fight it, but TerraNova's lawyers were too powerful for him. In the end, he had no choice but to leave.
John learned a valuable lesson. He realised that owning something was not always the key to success. The future was uncertain, and it was better to invest in things that were more secure. He left the city and started a new life, never looking back at the past.
