This week in Paris and just after 14th of July, it is the "Ethereum Community Conference" or "Ethcc" for those familiar with blockchain. It is one of the largest conferences in the blockchain/crypto sector (also known as web3) in the world. We are already at the 6th Parisian edition, with more than 4500 participants, 280 experts speakers and over 200 related events also within other ecosystems/blockchains. “No noise, so much alpha” as the creator of Ethcc said wisely one night ;)
As all this happens in Paris, France. It is a great opportunity to “redo” a mapping of the French blockchain/crypto ecosystem! "Redo" because we published the first mapping of this ecosystem at the end of 2017 with an update in 2018, so it was much needed to update it. You can find its latest version here:
A few comments. This ecosystem has evolved very well, going from about 80 actors in 2017 to more than 414 today! We did a meticulous work of monitoring and tracking. The most represented narratives, these are NFTs, data integrity, and web3 marketing.
In terms of regulation compliance, France is not left behind with more than 83 registered PSANs (digital assets service providers) and a national ecosystem well prepared to welcome the European regulation Mica (Markets in Crypto-Assets) applicable from January 2025. Also more PSAN will be announced very soon.
But web3 also includes an entire ecosystem around startups. Large corporations, banks, investment funds, regulators, lawyers/accountants specialized in the subject, dedicated associations...everyone can take part.
Methodology: This mapping includes companies whose headquarters are registered in France and whose website is functional. It contains exclusively and only data concerning legal entities, which is outside the scope of the General Data Protection Regulation - (GDPR) of May 24, 2016 confirmed at 2° of the 14th « considérant » of this regulation reproduced below and accessible on the CNIL website https://www.cnil.fr/fr/reglement-europeen-protection-donnees. We make no qualitative judgment on the projects. This mapping never promotes any cryptocurrency and can not be held as financial advice by any sort.
