Fire-hit temple looks for helping hands

Help, please! Worshippers at a small, 100-year-old temple in Sheung Wan are trying to repair damage after it was engulfed in flames on Sunday.

The fire broke out in Fok Tak Kung Temple, in Water Lane near Tai Ping Shan Street.

The fire department quickly extinguished the blaze but the temple was severely burned.

A volunteer worker said the temple is privately owned. It has only one altar and an incense burner, and is in its fourth generation and managed by a woman named Lo.

The volunteer quoted Lo as saying she hopes helping hands can assist in clearing the damage.

A post by the "Hide and Seek Tour" Facebook page, which promotes cultural conservation work, said damaged statues have been entrusted to an expert for restoration.
