Here at Gameonomics, we are obsessed with finding unique and exciting web3 game projects. I first spotted My Pet Hooligan on Twitter when I saw a brief video of it’s gameplay. I was immediately captivated by its attractive art and fun looking gameplay. Put simply, it’s a GTA style, open world multiplayer game that involves players running around doing missions, PVP contests and minigames. My Pet Hooligan is AMGI Studio’s flagship web3 game. AMGI studios is a web3 entertainment company that has experienced creators from studios such as Pixar, Disney, and ILM (Lucas Film).
Currently it’s in Alpha 1 and players can only access it if they own one of the 8888 “Hooligan” NFTs. They are selling for around 1 ETH right now, which is expensive but it’s important to note that this game will be released as free to play. The current Alpha involves players exploring a small map, testing out shooting guns and running/skateboarding around the city. Although it’s quite basic now, the fun graphics and smooth gameplay/control makes me really excited to see how they incorporate minigames and multiplayer modes. This game could be very popular if they find a way to make it addicting and social.

It’s also impressive to see a game that would be competitive in web2 utilising web3 technology. The fact that you can currently own your unique NFT character and use it in game with a graphically accurate and impressive representation is a really important step for a game that wants to attract traditional web2 gamers into the web3 space. Furthermore, the character NFT has a unique feature called Hooligram where it can be linked to a mobile device’s camera through its app. The app enables users to animate and control their NFT character through real-time motion capture of facial expressions and on-command animation technology. This level of detail proves how much effort AMGI is putting into the graphics and user experience. It also shows that it’s very likely that there will be a social/community side which hasn’t been announced yet.

The My Pet Hooligan ecosystem is powered by $Karrot. It’s use cases will include access to experiences, collecting items/perks in the marketplace, minting future nft drops and staking. $Karrots have a fixed supply at 1 billion tokens. The tokenomics seem sound and fair, with 63% of token supply going to the players and the remaining 37% being controlled/used by the My Pet Hooligan administrators. But like most play to earn models, it is unproven and largely speculative in the infant stages of web3 gaming.

Overall, this is a project to keep an eye out for. It should be on everyone’s list of web3 games to play when it is released to the public. Any game that has an open world filled with adventure, minigames, social communities and general fun gameplay will stand out to traditional gamers. And at the end of the day, we need to convince traditional gamers that web3 is the future of gaming. Furthermore, the game has outstanding graphics and art that are created by some very experienced designers (led by Colin Brady – former Chief Animator for Pixar’s Toy story 1 & 2, Bugs Life, Amazing Spider Man, GoT and many more). I’m excited to play some multiplayer with the Gameonomics crew once this is released!
