Summary of the Week

Bitcoin rose to around $65K as Iran–Oman deal talks eased concerns around the Strait of Hormuz, while an unexpected decline in U.S. July payrolls pushed traders to price out a September Fed rate hike. CME leveraged funds turned net long, and U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $853.5M in weekly inflows, the strongest since mid-April. Bitcoin's BVIV volatility index also fell to its lowest level since 2025. Meanwhile, Strategy sold another 1,690 BTC for $108.6M, reducing its holdings to 840,447 BTC. Deposits into lending platforms and DEXs more than tripled YoY to $7.4B, driven by tokenized Treasuries, private credit and gold.

Institutional expansion continued across crypto and traditional finance. Robinhood began rolling out crypto trading to eligible UK customers through Bitstamp, bringing more than 50 digital assets into its main investing app. Reports also revealed that Coinbase offered as much as $2.5B for BVNK before the stablecoin infrastructure company's founders ultimately chose Mastercard's lower $1.8B offer, reportedly due to better cultural fit. Wintermute registered a U.S. subsidiary as an SEC and FINRA broker-dealer as it prepares to expand beyond crypto into traditional equities and commodities.

On the policy front, the Senate delayed a vote on the Clarity Act until lawmakers return from their August recess, extending uncertainty around U.S. crypto market structure legislation. Meanwhile, the CFTC cautioned prediction markets over the use of American-style "moneyline" betting odds.

Crypto Markets

Bitcoin continues to trade between $62K and $65K, with little change in the overall structure. Despite a low volume week, price has remained surprisingly resilient, showing little reaction to continued selling from Strategy.

Positioning is becoming more interesting. CME leveraged funds have turned net long as weaker futures yields continue to undermine the once popular basis trade, while CVD shows strong buying on Binance, OKX and Bybit.

For now, $65K remains the key level to break. A clean move above it could open the door for further upside, while $62K remains the local range support.
