I want to talk about what web3 can learn from Lensa’s campaign and AI in general. I know it’s ironic to learn something from AI; we can and did.
Before I get into what we learned from AI and Lensa, I would like to start with one glaring issue of web3:
Web3 is not fun for the average person who doesn’t care to use the technology.
Most humans want to have fun, and web2 reminds us of how much pleasure the internet can bring. It has raised our dopamine levels; web3 has complicated and shut out most. Only creative people have been allowed to participate….then comes the Lensa app, more on that in a second…
Let me say that AI technology has been here; hello, Tesla! Its existence is noted in the NFT world, particularly in art projects popping up within the blockchain, minted, and created using AI. Artists are currently using AI technology to transcribe visuals of their words pictorially; the merge between robots and human is here. This is AI technology; it’s scary for some and helpful to others.
AI differs from the “blockchain” because it has managed to capture the attention of web2 audiences while encouraging them to participate in future technology. A few days ago, Lensa, an AI app, released a feature allowing users to upload pictures and receive AI-generated art from them. This one move took web2 users into the highly technical world of AI. Something web3 hasn't managed to do from a wide angle within the blockchain.
Lensa’s latest AI campaign was a brilliant strategy for many reasons; I’ll include three here:
It opened the door for diverse participation and inclusion. Unlike the world of web3, Lensa didn’t isolate its user.
It created a pleasant and easy instant user experience
It inspired people to use their imagination
Web3 does not give most people a pleasant user experience because of its (often) clunky navigation (which I am sure will improve). And while web3 inspires the imagination, it does not capture the attention of most (which is neither good nor bad) depending on your perspective.
Web3 can learn from AI technology and apps like Lensa. AI geniuses have taken the items that people are familiar with and bridged the gap between consumers, the unknown, and the often complicated world of technology.
