How hard is it to actually find a “low cap gem”?

Well, I’m glad you asked. Before I befuddle you with my lack of intellect, the answer to my question is… I have no idea. Why, I hear you ask? Well, I don’t actually know how difficult it is to buy into low cap projects. The complexities were too big brained for me, and I got turned off, so now I just crowd loan with DOT.

Back before I first dipped my toe into the crypto pond, I thought I would day trade my way towards millionaire-hood within weeks. Instead, I just burnt money in fees, and useless transactions/swaps, whilst trying to acquire some of these fledgling coins. Not to mention all of the endless hours I wasted away on Youtube, trudging through every “Don’t Sleep on this 1,000x Coin” video under the sun. As fun as it was to burn hours of my days away, all while simultaneously, and unproductively bludgeoning my pocket book, I eventually resigned to parking my funds on a centralized exchange, and calling it ‘good enough’.

Enter the era of the Polkadot/Kusama crowdloan. So, hear me out before you go hitting me with the “Ain’t nobody got time for all that complex crowd loan hullah-ballou”. For context, I too am a man that couldn’t Sushi Swap his way out of an open paper bag. So from one easily overwhelmed crypto enthusiast to another, allow me to explain. When it comes to crowd loans, all the smart people do the leg work for us. As far as you and I are concerned, we just kick back and wait. We wait to be presented with a handful of projects (an auction batch), and then we simply decide if any of the projects tickle our fancy. By holding DOT, we are just perpetually presented with a revolving door of promising low cap beauties. And these crowd loan auctions comes with no obligation to partake. You can just wait until one catches your eye. You’ll get a fresh batch every month or so. And a project comes along and gives you that special little tingle, you can just throw your DOT at it. Where else are you just given a curated menu of promising projects on a monthly basis? Let alone one where you can kick start your investment into a project and not pay anything.

Wait what!?! They give me my money back and I don’t actually ‘pay’ anything? I get an investment in an early stage project, one that I personally feel has a good shot at making it big… fo’ freeeee!?! Alright, some would argue that it’s not free because you lock up your DOT for two years. But pre-crowdloan era, that’s essentially all I was doing when my crypto was parked on an exchange. And I since I already plan on hodling my DOT for a heck of a lot longer than two years, I might as well use it to grow my portfolio.

So if you (or someone you know) are sitting on the sidelines and just parking crypto on a centralized exchange, brush up on crowd loans. It might be something that interests you. And if it does interest you, the Dotsam-osphere is full of helpful folks analyzing these projects and sharing their findings with everyone. They’ve helped drag my flailing behind into the light, and they are ready to help you too. If you are looking for the basics on crowd loans start with CoinBureau here.
