Today I was shocked to find out that an artist I respect was copyminting.
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I wonder if people don't really care about copyright?
I think awareness of this issue varies mainly by country, but here in Japan it is cracked down on quite strictly.
It applies not only to the person who uploaded it but also to the platform.
On the other hand, underground art is filled with overflowing love for the characters who own the rights. It is called secondary creation, not just copying. In comparison, copyminting is an act of betrayal of the creators who have no respect or love.
However, copyright violations are basically only exercised if requested by the person who owns the rights.
Now that Web3 has become a social networking site, people who have realized that it is easy to make money are picking up images from Tumblr and Pinterest and posting them. The sad thing is that they are making $1000 in revenue that way.
Even if you contact the platform, there is not much to discuss, as they are not aware of the issue. It seems like it is now outside the law.
I have contacted several copyminters and talked to them, but they do not seem to be aware of it as a crime. The advertising only exaggerates the idea of "post and make money."
Since people are saying that virtual currencies and NFTs are all scams, does it really matter anymore?
I think that those who buy them need to be media literate as well.
I want artists to be artists.
