It’s been about a year that I’ve been in crypto/web3/weeb3 whatever we call this thing that eats our time and either returns extra internet money or sends it to smarter people.
Financially I have done… poorly. Notable bad financial trades for me include KLIMA, and MNFST. Two of my favorite projects in the space, however timing and ze market do not share my enthusiasm. Basically I am down bad. Don’t really want to do the math to figure it out, but am about 90% down. Lost money as well on noobs shit like Cumrocket, and TITAN and a few other shenanigan’s. One the plus side, if I just did the boring thing and only bought the majors I’d still be down. 2021 $66k BTC and $4500 ETH is not the best time to start in crypto. Worst part, I lost more than I could afford to lose, paying off a line of credit from bad investment decisions is not fun.
I don’t really get NFT’s so missed out on all that fun, mid-curved it to the extreme in avoiding gas fee’s to buy jpegs.
So why write this? Well partially to get my thoughts down, and hopefully as an antidote to the survivorship bias that we all get coped by. For every CT influencer who 1000x their bags there is probably 900 people who have gotten rekt. (source: me)
Despite my terrible investing decisions I am still very excited to be in this space. Have made some serious connections with some brilliant people, and am now trying to build useful products. There is seriously something going on that is special, and I want to be a part of it.
What we are building at Manifest is seriously cool, and I see the space we are in driving real adoption for this decentralized, permissionless systems we know and love.
So if you want advice on getting into crypto, I can’t tell you how to make it. All I can say is be careful with the choice you make at the beginning, make small mistakes and not large ones. Because you will make mistakes.
This year I’ll be focussing on accruing value in the ecosystem by provding real value to projects, not apeing and hoping for the moon.
That’s it for today. If more than 3 people read this I will do another one.
