The Igreja do Carmo or Igreja da Venerável Ordem Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, is located at the intersection between Praça de Carlos Alberto and Rua do Carmo, close to the Church and Tower of Clérigos, in the Portuguese parish of Vitória, Porto.

In Baroque/Rococo style, it was built in the second half of the 18th century, between 1756 and 1768, by the Terceira do Carmo Order, and was designed by the architect José Figueiredo Seixas. Construction of the hospital began later, and was completed in 1801.
This church was built on land adjoining the Igreja dos Carmelitas, on the west side, ceded to the Order in 1752. Since the construction of two churches together was not allowed at that time, the so-called Casa Escondida do Porto was built between them, separating the two churches and It's just over 1.5 meters wide.
It was classified as a National Monument on May 3, 2013, together with the adjacent Carmelitas Church.
In recent years, the Order of Carmo has sought to open up its vast heritage to the public. Initially opened the "Casa Escondida", considered by local guides as the "narrowest house in the city of Porto", and one of the narrowest in the country. Little by little, new spaces were opened in its contents, and nowadays it is available to visit the Tourist Circuit of the Order of Carmo.
Decoration
Facade
The facade features, in a prominent place, Santa Ana, to whom the Carmelite Order professed great devotion, because, according to the chronicles, she appeared to a group of Carmelites in the early days. She is also the patroness of this church. Two niches that flank the entrance door house the images of the prophets Elijah and Elisha, the two most representative models of the Order. In the upper body of the front, spires and sculptures of the figures of the four Evangelists, revealing influences of the “Italian baroque” style created by Nicolau Nasoni.
Tiles
The side façade of Igreja do Carmo is covered by a grand tile panel, depicting scenes alluding to the founding of the Carmelite Order and Mount Carmel. The composition was designed by Silvestre Silvestri, painted by Carlos Branco and executed in the factories of Senhor do Além and Torrinha, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and dated 1912.
Interior
Inside the Igreja do Carmo, the excellent gilded carvings in the side chapels and the main altar, the statuary and several oil paintings stand out.
Its iconographic program is related to the Passion, one of the characteristic themes of the Carmelites. In this case, the images are disposed according to a descending course, starting from the side of the Epistle: Agony in the Garden, Prison of the Lord, Flagellation, Lord of Cana Verde, Ecce Homo, Lord on the Way to Calvary. It concludes with the Crucifixion: the cross on the main altar and the painting of the Resurrection of Christ on the ceiling.
