GM Web3 Frens!
Currently, I start to build a referral community on Telegram, and I have recently had the opportunity to discuss with people working in Web3 for product improvement. In those discussions, I have been grateful to share some useful information about obtaining, searching for, and thriving in Web3 jobs.
Therefore, in this article, I would like to share the insights I have gained with those who want to work globally in Web3 or are interested in Web3 jobs. Specifically, I will introduce what a Web3 job is, what the characteristics of Web3 job types are, and the tools and communities that are useful when searching for a Web3 job.
Web3 jobs can be obtained by joining teams for NFT or GameFi projects, DAO, funded startups, or larger Enterprises.
I have met many people who are fascinated by Web3 jobs because Web3 embodies a decentralized, self-owned, and autonomous philosophy. Moreover, if we were to define Web3 jobs more simply, they could be described as jobs without physical and mental constraints.

Here, wages and jobs should not be discriminated against based on identity or personality, but rather a responsibility to the role, regardless of nationality or gender. Specifically, people can work remotely worldwide, and they are not influenced by old-fashioned identities or physical appearances due to the existence of a pseudonymous economy. In other words, while Covid-19 has brought about Physical Remote Work, the philosophy of Web3 has further brought about Mental Remote Work.
Of course, there are inherent difficulties, much like conventional remote work, but I understand that people are fascinated by the wonderful values these bring, precisely because they incorporate the philosophy of Web3.
Elimination of wage disparities arising from birth
Acquisition of new digital identities independent of nationality or gender
Acquisition of job satisfaction in sharpened projects or organizations according to individual hobbies and preferences
Web3 is the Future of Work. Certain individuals are breaking free from their physical and mental constraints and exploring new ways of living.
Among the people who work in Web3, in addition to the general job types, there are some distinctive ones. Let me introduce a few as preliminary knowledge.
If you are considering working in Web3 in the future, it would be good to think about what kind of job you can contribute to.
Due to full remote work, the blockchain ecosystem, and decentralized culture, some job types require distinctive skills compared to general ones.
Founder
You are expected to have a degree of technical knowledge, the philosophy and vision of decentralized technology, and to bring together a team of global talent.
Hiring Manager
Since the remote work environment is common, you play a role in finding candidates with specific skills and knowledge in blockchain and crypto and conducting recruitment activities without geographical restrictions.
Moderator
You manage channels, effective messages, interactions, and guidelines to activate users in online communities like Discord and Telegram.
Collab Manager
With excellent networking skills, you search for other communities and projects to become partners, and manage collaborations and partnerships for co-working events and mutual promotions.
Alpha Caller
You detect updates for future airdrops and promising projects before they become widespread and cooperate with the community in providing whitelists, research, and marketing to connected servers.
Social Manager
As a content creator, you collaborate with existing SNS and Web3 Social, conduct AMA spaces, post memes to boost the community, and create content that conveys the brand.
Blockchain Engineer
You have knowledge about blockchain, smart contracts, cryptography, and collaborating protocols. You properly connect and implement not only on-chain data but also on-chain data and the front and back ends of Web2. Knowledge about security risks and audits is also required.
To acquire a job in Web3, you need to skillfully utilize tools and communities to obtain the process and targeted work style.
In the diagram below, the horizontal axis represents the job search process, and the vertical axis represents the type of job affiliation. If we were to organize this in three dimensions, we should also add the concept of job type, but to avoid overcomplication, we have organized it in two dimensions for now. Also, we have classified the ones people are actually using as "Practical," and the ones that might be expected in the future as "Prospective."

Each service, community, and tool can be used in various ways, so please note that there are other uses than the ones mapped. On Figma, you can click on each icon to jump to the website, so please click on the ones that interest you.
Next, I will pick up characteristic tools, communities, and startups for the Process from left to right on the horizontal axis and introduce them.
Regardless of the job type, many people start from this step of gathering information and searching for a job. Among these, popular ones are research by CoinGecko and information from Alphas on Twitter.
Many people collect information daily to distinguish whether a project is trustworthy or a scam. Eventually, many people make judgments by looking at the project's white paper.
Web3 Social is also gaining momentum, but it still can't compete with Twitter's network effect. However, Lens protocol and Farcaster have firmly established DAU, making them good methods for collecting token information. Damus, which delivers messages via a decentralized relay, is gaining popularity among developers.
Other popular media include Decrypt, which provides daily news digest Decrypt Daily, a bi-weekly gm with the largest cryptocurrency industry, daily newsletters, live videos, and more. There's also Bankless, which operates consulting services, and DAO, Nansen which provides on-chain reports, The Block which is a crypto news site, and Messari which issues reports analyzing protocols and DApps every quarter.
Among those working in Web3, many choose to maintain their identity under pseudonyms or anonymously, often using Twitter with a pseudonym as a business card substitute for casual profiles.
When it comes to job hunting, many still use LinkedIn and often end up submitting identity verification documents after an interview to confirm their identity. Designers too, are still frequently using Behance. I believe transitioning to a Web3 platform would require convenience beyond these existing platforms. Of course, I sympathize with the idea that using tokens can enable work verification and the provision of trustworthy information, but this may differ from the actual usage circumstances of real users.
However, these are primarily intended for Web2 personnel, and may not be optimal for those who want to work in Web3. I think there is still much potential for development in this field, and possibilities to create better Web3 profiles or to improve existing products.
For instance, among the people I've met, I've seen the following being used: Contra, which allows you to create beautiful original pages; Belong, which allows you to create profiles based on social tokens; Talenty, which is transaction-based; Linkdot, which allows you to record achievements in cooperation with Lens; Galaxie, which is favored by moderators; and Nimi, which is used by people in the DAO sector.
Profiles can take several directions. Although there are things like resumes based on tokens, not many people actually use them extensively in job hunting.
Interestingly, there is Kleoverse, a profile for engineers that allows for the issuance of NFTs based on GitHub activity. KleoVerse uses its NFTs in conjunction with apps like Phaver from Lens as a credential functioning as Proof of Humanity. There are also those specialized for games like PlayGround, and others like Mazury that allows token-wide searches, the integrated Aspecta, and Springrole that can be linked with LinkedIn.
Profiles serve as a business card substitute, and while individual preferences may vary, from a business perspective, I believe there's potential for Web3-targeted solutions to converge into something like a business SNS.
Services in the Credentials category exist from the perspective of proof of work and Proof of Humanity. Examples include Badge, Kudos for expressing gratitude, the Gitcoin Passport that can be linked with SNS, Sismo which allows for proof while concealing information using ZK, and VESS which uses Ceramic DID. Honestly, these don't offer benefits significant enough to overturn the UX of Web2, so they're more likely to be used in high-minded DAO voting and collaboration scenarios rather than for job hunting.
Methods to find job opportunities include hackathons, networking, job boards, referral hiring, and user agents.
Especially for the purpose of joining early-stage startup teams, I've met several people who teamed up by participating in Ethereum's Global Hackathon. Cases of people working in major companies participating in hackathons and starting their Web3 careers are also common. There are also platforms like Devfolio, which allows you to showcase your hackathon portfolio, and hackathon platforms like DoraHacks, AKINDO, Indorse, and Taikai. Hackathons are used for recruitment events and innovation sourcing by large companies, so understanding each company's intent is crucial.
When it comes to gathering early-stage co-founders, many still use traditional platforms like Y Combinator or AngelList. While Web3-focused incubators or accelerators like OrangeDAO or AllianceDAO are popular, the competition is fierce.
Finding work within the spectrum from gig work to startups is popular in communities. Metaintro is especially popular, offering recruitment and matching for early-stage small projects, startups, and NFT projects. They are also focusing on dissemination through social media, and their moderators are sincere and will be strong allies. Many people show their faces in many communities, and others that users are involved in include Bondex, RooTroop, which has many NFT jobs, TRIBA Business Community for collaborations, Neon Sundae, Going Up, Social3 which has many job offers including major companies, Husslup, and Out Define. For design, there's Web3Designers, and for Telegram, there's illuminatiJOBS and BlockJobs.
Rethinkable, which has a very cool idea, offers a platform where you can issue job tickets based on Discord, providing a smooth UX. There are also networking platforms to expand new connections such as TalentProtocol, which allows you to invest in talent, and ENTRE, where investors and entrepreneurs can communicate.
Regarding job boards, there are many for the Web3 field or for those who wish to remain anonymous. Examples include DAOmatch, which specializes in DAOs, Game Dev DAO, huntd where you can get a hiring bounty, anonfriendly which is focused on anonymous job seekers, HireVibes for freelancers, Talent Layer for infrastructure layer, Daily remote, WWR, Remote OK, Web3.career, Ort job, Crypto currency jobs, Web3 Jobs, and Crypto Jobs
In terms of referrals, there are protocols and services that return the agent fee obtained from companies to the introducer when a referral for recruiters is made. Examples include Weekday, Hirechain, Techtree, and Intropia. The report on Web3 jobs by Intropia is very informative for understanding the values of those working in Web3, and I recommend it to those who are considering entering the field.
However, since Job Protocol has recently ended its service, there is a challenge in managing referrals without relying on incentives and providing value in the service.
The product I'm developing, "Refid", is also about referral hiring and applications. Based on the social graph of Discord and Lens Protocol (currently under development), I'm exploring how to realize the hiring and application of reliable talent and projects by leveraging the network of Web3 talent.
Regarding agencies, I don't know much about them, but UpTopSearch is known in the media. Also, in India, it seems there are staffing companies that specialize in moderators.
In the phase of finding or making work easier, there are matching, collaboration tools, and welfare tools.
In particular, Fiverr, which has been around since Web2, is a popular freelance platform across different industries, and many blockchain engineers also use this site. In the Web3 version, there are LaborX, Hyve, Recorem, etc. These may provide escrow with smart contracts for decentralization. Also, BrainTrust is a well-known name, and according to Messari data, its revenue was $2.2M in the first quarter of 2023, showing it is a very important service for global freelancers. Also unique is Noxx, which specializes in the pseudonym economy mentioned by Baraji, trying to eliminate hiring and side job barriers based on nationality or affiliated companies.
As collaboration tools, there are Dework and Wonder Verse, which make it easy to participate in bounty work with task boards, and Station and Coordinape, Deep Skills, Ribbon, etc., which give proof of people they've worked with. A system that designs proof of work with tokens within existing workflows can be said to have very good UX.
Regarding welfare tools, there is Opolis, which is a service limited to the US.
The world of Web3 provides the possibility of new ways of working and shaping careers. It includes many attractive elements, such as breaking away from traditional ways of working, liberation from physical and mental constraints, and the acquisition of new digital identities.
However, as you all see, the world where all jobs are replaced by DAOs or blockchain is not currently as we thought when Web3 became popular. On the other hand, it is a fact that the token circulation independent of countries pioneered by Bitcoin and the ecosystem of Ethereum's world computer are clearly creating a labor market. I also want to do my best to create more places for people who want to work regardless of location, time, space, and identity.
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, I start to build a referral community on Telegram. If you’re interested, pls join and share friends. And you can submit referrals from https://airtable.com/appvlgbqQu5bkjlXZ/shrnAJ7pq7V4aay49 If your friends wanna be referred, please fill out.
And currently, the Refid I'm developing is in the stage of building on the following Lens Protocol, but in the future, I have a vision of paying a network composition fee to contributors to the formed network. If you are interested, please read the Docs where the information is summarized, and if you like, I would appreciate your feedback.

I introduced the way of working in the world of Web3 based on the knowledge and experience I have gained so far, but because it is still a developing field, new insights, and information are born every day. If you have tools or communities that make your practical use of Web3 jobs more effective, please comment. I can add them here.
