In building CharismaSocial.xyz, I have gained insights into data, reputation and identity. I want to share my learnings with the community.
What is a reputation? A reputation has three foundational components: human interpretation, information input, and methodology. When you make an interpretation, it helps to know the what and the how.
If someone is known to be a “Billie Eilish Super Fan,” what could that mean? What degree of fandom rises to the level of a “Super Fan” will vary depending on who you ask. What path one takes to become “Super” would vary from fan to fan.
Perhaps one should only deserve the “Billie Eilish Super Fan” title if he or she was an early fan, has been to concerts, and wears merchandise. Here, the “Super Fan” trait is the human interpretation. The early Instagram follow, proof of concert attendance and merch sales receipts are the data info input, the what. The methodology is how that data is taken into account. Perhaps 2 concert attendance is acceptable, but 6 concert appearances plus 3 merch purchases should be the minimum threshold necessary to be considered a “Super Fan” - this is the how.
If you consider yourself to be a pretty big Billie Eilish fan, but didn’t get that designation, you may think: “Hey, wait a minute…I love Billie, why aren’t I a “Super Fan?” There is no need to guess, now you know.
The Charisma personality test result provides you with all three foundation pieces of information.
If someone receives the “Diamond Hands” personality trait, what could that mean? Here, the “Diamond Hands” label is the human interpretation. The transactions in and transactions out, as further refined into purchases and sales, are the data info input, the what. Heavily trading the majority of your NFTs and only holding 1 NFT is probably not good enough to make your hands sparkle like diamonds. However, purchasing some percentage more than what you sell, maybe a good indicator that you have diamond hands - this is the how.

Why is it important to have all three of the foundational elements of a reputation?
Seeing how something is calculated creates the opportunity to evaluate whether that particular calculation is useful for the user’s purposes. There could be many ways to calculate for a certain trait. A trait is only meaningful if one understands the rationale behind the calculation.
More importantly, a trait is only fair if the rationale is transparent. This is especially true if the traits are human cultural concepts. Cultural concepts are inherently subjective, which is why it is critical to define their parameters as much as we can. Cultural concepts also evolve with the times and so should the way that reputation labels are calculated.
I am building towards a future where people can control their data narrative and put due process back into algorithms. If you would like to support my work, please consider collecting one of the NFTs. Thank you for reading and I appreciate your feedback, always.
