Web3 Wednesdays is a transient community that convenes for 2 hours every Wednesday at 9AM PT / 12ET / 6 CET to discuss our feelings about Web3.
A safe space for critical conversations in a WAGMI world. This is a peer-validated virtual space and an experiment in decentralized community gatherings.
The first gathering on May 4th, 2022 included 10 participants – we spoke about the emotional ups and downs of NFT release cycles, gambling and FOMO. 🎢 Artists shared their experiences with the NFT market’s thirst for financial narratives embedded into the artwork, and collectors hyper focused on floor price, trading volume, and utility instead of artworks and ideas. We wondered together, how the NFT market differs from the contemporary art world’s mythology around commercialization and industry – if at all – and discussed our feelings. What can be done to move the space forward? What happens next?
First hour is a moderated conversation with chat – anyone can raise their hand to join the discussion.
Second hour is open conversation – drop-off to continue your day, keep discussing the threads from the first hour, connect with a friend or meet someone new.
In order to join, participants request an invitation or get onboarded by a past participant and upload their data for validation.
The day of the event participants with active URLs can enter the voice-only live lounge environment (desktop only). ZERO BLOCKCHAIN ~ NO WALLET REQUIRED !!!
Central to this experiment is an attempt to prototype a decentralized gathering space:
Peer-to-peer Network of Trust – participants are invited and validated by each other. Everyone provides a URL to their own data ‘key file’ and the centralized experience is temporary, lasting approximately 2 hours each week.
Participatory Archive – participants are logged and invited to connect with each other directly through the decentralized directory, uploaded by the community. Each happening is reflected back by participants as timestamps and URLs.
Independent Virtual Space – non-corporate space to be shaped by participants and grow organically for a short period of time. There is no revenue model, and that’s the point.
Nothing is recorded, this is a live virtual event. Conversation chat text is archived for participants to reference. Participants receive a log file with links to each other.

This is an evolution of video lounges created by @grex and @kelaninichole in 2020 as an independent virtual space to gather online – the space has been host to dozens of salons, performances, workshops, conferences, virtual installations and other forms of cultural gatherings.
