These fires not only result in the loss of precious wildlife habitats but also significantly impact global wetland ecosystems. The Convention on Wetlands, also known as the Ramsar Convention, recognizes the value of wetlands and works towards their conservation. Wetlands, like parts of Lake Baikal's periphery, are vital for maintaining global ecological balance.
While the problems are evident, there are organizations and technological solutions emerging to counter these challenges. Take the Vaquita, a small marine mammal, as an example. With fewer than 30 individuals left, the Vaquita, found in the northern Gulf of California, is the world's most endangered marine mammal. Organizations like the GoodPlanet Foundation are at the forefront of saving such endangered species, through awareness campaigns, conservation efforts, and direct interventions.
